Re: Hotspot software: What happens if you run it

Here's what I was just told (and tested) with a local rep.

the Internet Sharing Option (tethering) requires the "optional" Mobile HotSpot add-on on your account. that's an additional $29.99 per month on top of the extra $10 for 4g.

When she had it on my account I was able to connect via USB to my PC and browse the net using my mobile connection. As soon as she removed it, I was unable to browse the net.

Someone will need to come up with an Internet Sharing Fix similar to what they did with jailbreaking the Iphone and also what I used on my WM6 device.

While I understand there could be some abuse by users, if you read the find print Sprint can shut you off for too much bandwidth anyhow.

Anyone else have other ideas?

btw.. I didn't have Wifi turned on .. it was off.

You should take a look at the fine print..

About Data Services & Content
......To protect our network, Services, or for other reasons, we may place restrictions on accessing certain Data Content (such as certain websites, applications, etc.), impose separate charges, limit throughput or the amount of data you can transfer, or otherwise limit or terminate Services.

Specific Terms & Restrictions On Using Data Services

In addition to the rules for using all of our other Services, unless we identify the Service or Device you have selected as specifically intended for that purpose (for example, wireless routers, Data Link, etc.), you can’t use our data Services: (1) with server devices or host computer applications, or other systems that drive continuous heavy traffic or data sessions; (2) as a substitute or backup for private lines or frame relay connections; or (3) for any other unintended use as we determine in our sole discretion. We reserve the right to limit, suspend or constrain any heavy, continuous data usage that adversely impacts our network performance or hinders access to our network. If your Services include web or data access, you also can’t use your Device as a modem for computers or other equipment, unless we identify the Service or Device you have selected as specifically intended for that purpose (for example, with "phone as modem" plans, Sprint Mobile Broadband card plans, wireless router plans, etc.).

This is actually a change from what they had previously posted, most likely due to the EVO being introduced, but if you notice, they can still terminate you if they determine your usage is too high..

that sure doesn't sound like "unlimited" to me...
