May buy EVO tonight - need some answers on warranty, rebate, etc.

I have a chance to buy an Evo tonight for about $400, but am concerned about a few things.

1. Will it be covered by warranty?

2. Will it be eligible for the $100 rebate, or is that only for a phone that stays on the originally assigned number for 30+ days? These are already assigned a number from the Google I/O, and I need to port this over to my number at some point after June 4th

I guess I am wavering on taking the deal, since in a week I can buy one without contract for $449 (and maybe talk them into some kind of little credit because I have an unused full upgrade credit on a data line I have), and then get the rebate. Or so I think, which leads to the next question:

3. If I'm 8-9 months into my TP2 contract, so would I even still be eligible for a rebate on this phone (Evo), even if bought full price from Sprint? Obviously, I have to change plan and activate the new Evo.

4. If I buy the Evo tonight, would I be eligible for the monthly bill discount (is it 15%?) for phones from the Google event, or is that only for the original reciever of the phone, and/or for the original number assigned to the phone?

Thanks for any insights

Re: May buy EVO tonight - need some answers on warranty, rebate, etc.

you wont get the rebate.
It will be covered by manufacturer warranty, but i doubt you will be covered by sprint. If you get TEP it should be covered with the deductible you have to pay etc.

If you have insurance w/Sprint it will be covered.

Not eligible for the rebate, you'd need a receipt for that.

Not sure bout being eligible for the rebate if you go and buy it at Sprint outright, I think you need to upgrade or start a new line to get that, although I could be wrong.

I'd just call Sprint and ask them about that rebate deal, might be a good idea.

Will I get the rebate buying it from Sprint, even though I am still in contract on the TP2?

Yeah, that may be the case. The only thing being upgraded would be my plan, and how deep they reach into my pocket every month. But I may be able to talk them into some sort of credit, which may considerably offset the price difference, including tax

Re: May buy EVO tonight - need some answers on warranty, rebate, etc.

You are not eligible for the rebate unless you qualify for the full, 2 year upgrade pricing.

So, it's 1 year with $75 off and no MIR. Or, 2 year with $150 off + $100 MIR.

The one year is not even worth taking, IMO. Just buy it outright. You'll still be covered by both Sprint (it's a Sprint branded device, it doesn't matter where you got/bought it) and HTC.

Re: May buy EVO tonight - need some answers on warranty, rebate, etc.

I've heard different things regarding buying the phone full price from sprint. Some people say you can and they have previously on other devices, but I would double-check and call sprint. If they say yes, then ask them for their name so that you can say so-and-so said i would get it, and they'll probably credit it even if you get denied.

So it sounds like I might as well buy the unit tonight, assuming it is not messed up. Then I can see if I really like it, using the activated line. And if I don't like it, I should be able to recoup my $$$

Just to re-confirm you will not be able to get the rebate from sprint if you are not good for the 2yr upgrade price.
