anyone else have problem with RadioShack?

I went to radio shack today to pre order the HTC Evo , and the rep told me that i could not buy unless i was getting a new line or upgrade. I told him i wanted to buy the phone straight out, and he said his boss told him that they could not do it that way because they would loose money that way. Wow, has this happened to anyone else? i mean $500 would be losing money. i guess they just want to make money off 2 yr agreements .. i will call the next store. Best Buy 1st orders have been out and you have to get the next shipment on June 9th. If all Radio Shacks are doing this, i maybe camping at sprint store 7am

Try another radio shack. . . the first one i called (about 2 miles from my work) said "no" immediately when i asked about buying off contract. the next one i called (about 4 miles from my house) said "sure, no problem" and the manager and sales girl were basically falling over each other trying to help me when i went in to pre order it! done deal and i was the first to pre order there on friday!

I read on XDA that you would need to be eligible to activate the phone as a new line or as an upgrade but that they wouldn't actually make you activate it or start a new line. Show them their own advertisement saying reg price was like 499.

True, but that has nothing to do with pre-order requirements. If they have them in stock I'm sure they'll sell them unactivated.
