HTC android phones to receive 2.2 update by Q3!!!

HTC confirmes Froyo update

HTC has noted today that "most" of its recent and upcoming Android devices will be getting the 2.2 update (Froyo), during the Q3 this year.

These phones include the Desire, Droid Incredible, MyTouch 3G Slide and the EVO 4G along with other upcoming models.

Availability of the firmware update for older devices (like those released before 2010) was not noted, but seems unlikely, given that many still run on 1.5 or 1.6.

Says HTC: "We are working closely with Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to everything we need to provide a complete and solid Sense experience on Froyo."

While 2.2 was unveiled earlier this week to rave reviews, Google notes it is not completely finished yet. Device makers should have it within a month, however. (That is of course, unless you have a Nexus One, which has been given an OTA update for 2.2 already).

Froyo adds tethering, portable hotspot tech, built-in Flash 10.1, Microsoft Exchange enterprise capabilities, and a 400 percent performance boost

yea ive noticed one thing htc's hardware just keeps getting better where as moto's has stayed the same and they keep pushing 1.5 and 1.6 based hardware.

I'd bet the hero gets froyo, and it has been stated that the froyo framework could very feasibly run on the g1. I am hopeful.

Thats cause motorola mobile division pretty much went out of business..only reason they survived is cause android is free so they were able to enter the market. But updating versions of android requires more development on their end so until they get back on their feet don't expect much from them...

too bad sprint takes a year to add in their crap and realese it....tp2 , hero, tooo much waiting for an update...........hopelly in the future they can let users get updates strait from the people that makes the phone

Well you have to consider that most software from manufacturers are considered one size fits all: Basically, there will be more functions that are not supported by the network or the software will use 'standard' values that might be off and wont allow the device to connect to the network. So the phone company must basically 'strip' this software so it can work with your device. After stripping comes the near infinite number of tests and user evaluations...

If the manufacturer released their upgrades directly, then all phones must be standardized so the software would work out of the box... but that might make phones really boring.

Good thing there is a group of people that does not like to wait and get their hands on this software and are able to cook it and gives us the early benefit of enjoying something that the actual phone company is still testing.
