Special Code needs to be entered to access WIFIHotspot??... please read

http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/sprin...the-htc-evo-4g

now this may change once rooted and such.. but it certainly says "the code carries the monthly charge"

leads me to believe sprint thinks they can stop unwanted tethering and have figured out a blocker for the EVO.... only time will tell

That's for Sprint's own mobile wi-fi hotspot app. For those of us planning on rooting and using an alternative, that shouldn't be an issue.

right, thats for the 29.99 add on for the EVO, i know that.... but if we couldnt SIM unlock because of a carrier block, maybe just maybe, theyve figured something out in regards to tether..... then again, we did find a way around that too lol...

just showing all the info as it gets presented is all...

sure, well hopefully, we can root... but just like custom roms, not everyone does it.. so not everyone will be rooting im sure as well

Looks to me like it's just a code they enter on your plan so the system will charge you the monthly fee, not a code to access the hotspot from your phone.

I'm sure we'll have a way to wi-fi tether for free within a week of release. This whole "hacking" process is much easier on Android than it is on WM. Amateurs can do it.

tethering aside, lets hope amatuers really can do it.. because man-o-man, do the threads get obvious and ridiculous when a new device first drops...

people dont wanna play with it and figure it out, they just want answers answers answers.... first week after release on here might be a lil redundant lol

I hope Geek4Me gets into the Evo hacking business. They have been great in the Hero world. If they put the effort into the Evo that they put into the Hero, we are in great shape.

I know XDA will be working on hacking this thing like there's no tomorrow. Between those two groups, we won't have anything to worry about (except when we can put leaked Froyo roms on the Evo, and how much we hate Sprint for being lazy with updates...)

Seriously it's really easy. It's the same process on all Android phones I believe. It's not like WM where you have to wait for someone to modify the SPL.

should we expect alot from XDA on this though?? XDA is mostly a GSM forum.. the CDMA forum is pretty weak.. thats why we have PPCG, for all us CDMA guys...

tethering doesnt have anything to do with SPL though... you can use the reg/cab methods regardless of if its unlocked or not.. and the last few years worth of HTC winmo devices all shared the same tethering hack, it wasnt different from device to device either.. just like how your saying androids all share the same
