Doing that would certainly make it easier to swallow the fee. I think they're charging the fee because the phone is 4G though. They can't come out and say that since not very many people have 4G, and especially not after the CEO's comments at CTIA, so they are just saying the fee is for enhanced media services or whatever. But I think it's pretty obvious they're charging for 4G. Last edited by BlackDynamite; 05-16-2010 at 11:46 PM. |

Re: dan@sprint.com response I got
It is completely true that the $10 add on for the HTC EVO is NOT fair for those who do not have 4G in their area. But 4G is very rapidly becoming available in many places so it won't be long until everybody with a 3G signal will have 4G as well. The data consumption of the EVO will be quite a bit more for those who do have 4G simply because 4G has a much higher data cap than 3G and the EVO itself does as well. You will use much more data with the EVO doing what you typically do on your current 3G smartphone plus the new data intensive features on the EVO will increase it even more.
I assume Sprint made the decision to make the $10 add on fee for the EVO reguardless of where you live because 4G will be available everywhere pretty soon anyways. This makes many of you without 4G feel that you are paying "extra" for nothing and it's true. BUT it makes sense to make the fee mandatory for a 4G phone reguardless of 3G/4G service rather than try to "monitor" who has and does not have 4G service even if you're traveling. 4G WiMAX will be available everywhere soon enough. For those who smoke, you pay more than $10 on cigs in one week. For those who like to drink alcohol, you pay more than $10 in one week. For those who wear cosmetics, you pay more than $10 in one week. For those who like to eat out, you pay more than $10 in one week. For those who buy gas for your vehicles and travel 2 to 5 miles out of the way to save .5 cents, you save nothing by burning more fuel than you are attempting to save by driving to a cheaper service station. (if it takes 1/4 gallon to travel to a cheaper service station, you spent at least .66 cents depending on your local fuel prices). If you do this regularly each month, then you likely pay more than $10 in one month. All in all it's a fair price to pay for 4G WiMAX for those who already have 4G in their area. For those who don't, relax it's coming soon!

Re: dan@sprint.com response I got
It's not like it's hidden and not advertised everywhere. If you don't want the $10 extra a month, don't get the EVO. Problem solved. However I suspect that this thread will continue full of complaints about the $10 you won't pay.
Gotta love the internet. |

Re: dan@sprint.com response I got
LOL. That's correct!!! And I don't smoke or drink either so I can afford the $10 bucks. Like has been said already... if you don't like the $10 fee don't buy the HTC EVO. Problem solved.
