Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???

From reading all this information about the EVO 4G plans. I don't get what the fuss is all about. The screenshot says that you will need to have a bundled voice/message/data plan which I believe is all the Everything Data Plans right now. So I would assume that if your on a Everything Data plan you shouldn't have any issues. There is not additional cost for the 4G data plans. just my two cents.

if anyone can link to the article because i cant find it. If i remember correctly i think it was during CTIA Dan specifically said Wimax will not cost more. Now the wimax hotspot / phone as modem feature im sure will cost me. As it does on any other device which can be used to tether.

ahhh here we go.

Sprint CEO Confirms 4G On Your Phone Will Not Cost Extra, he said the following: 9:33AM "3G’s kind of getting exhausted. I talk to my network guys, and it’s like Scottie in the engine room… ’she’s going as fast as she can!’" 9:34AM With 4G, "because we can produce a gigabyte cheaper, we can offer more to the customer." 9:35AM "It’s like standard def versus high def, but with that analogy, you paid more for the better service. With 4G, we’re giving you more for free ." Does this satisfy the most skeptical among you? It sure sounds confirmed to me.

now until the device is released i say no more plan discussion needs to be made and this should be closed. I don't think Dan Hesse would make the statement like that at 1 of the largest summits for wireless and then change his mind.

Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???

I honestly don't see Sprint trying to make people switch to different and more expensive plans if they are already a customer and have an Everything plan. With 4G only being in 25 markets, they don't have the kind of footprint needed for leveraging their customers into a forced plan switch with a greater cost.

They are probably just making new account types for the EVO (and other upcoming 4G handsets) so that once they have a much larger geographic 4G offering, they can raise the price on those plans, if they so choose. Otherwise, how can they require a more expensive plan for users like me who live in an area where 4G is not even slated for implementation through the end of this year?

We only have a few weeks to wait but I am confident that Sprint is smart enough to know that a forced plan change to more expensive plan for existing customers who would see no real benefit from the plan change would be a dreadful mistake.

rain if you remember back in the old days when there was 1xrtt and evdo....when you get an evdo device your plan code had to change but your plan remained the same. They have to do this for network authentication. same way that when you tether it uses a diff username then when you use regular web on a device.

Oh I remember and agree 100% with you. And I also I still think that there is a possibility that they will charge more for 4G, but certainly not immediately. If they did, they could save a lot of time and file for bankruptcy prior to the release of the new plan costs :)

I hope you are correct, but you are wrong about the way EVDO went down. Sprint required a plan upgrade for the PPC-6700 (their first EVDO device). The old plans vefore that were "Vision" plans, and they rtequired an upgrade to "Power Vision" plans when activating the 6700. And yes, those plans did cost more. I remember there were several tiers of power vision plans, and the cheapest one was like $5 more than the old Vision plan. I also remember it was a big deal because the power vision plan included unlimited picture mail, and the 6700 didn't even work with picture mail (without installing a hack ported over from the Verizon version of the 6700).

I remember this pretty clearly, as I upgraded from the 6600 to the 6700 at that time (like I'm sure most of this board did).

I also worked at sprint during the change from 1x to evdo and there was no price increase.
