http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/sprin...the-htc-evo-4g
according to this it looks like not only are we going to be charged extra for the mobile hotspot, but we may have to move to yet another new plan to have the EVO. |

Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???
Like I said, it would be crazy for Sprint charge more for a 4G EVO plan. According to them 4g is a hell of alot cheaper to maintain than 3g so why charge even more? And how is raising prices gonna attract customers? Besides Dan Hesse himself said that 4g won't cost anymore than your standard 3g service that you have now. So again I can understand special pricing for the 4g hotspot but thats really about it.

Wow, that screenshot is pretty disappointing. If sprint tries to raise prices for the Evo, I will likely move to T-Mobile as soon as they release an HSPA+ phone. Hopefully they have something that competes with the Evo soon, and has a keyboard.

.....but WTF kind of info is that about current customers?!?! I mean......REALLY HUH?!?!?!?! So where is this idea about getting a plan SPECIFICALLY for the EVO 4G coming from?!?!?!?! |
Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???
Can I safely assume that they will make me ditch SERO if I want to upgrade to Evo?
I am currently using TP. Guess my only option tu stay w/ WinMo & SERO is by upgrading to TP2? Wish HD2 avail in CDMA. That would ve been a perfect WinMo CDMA phone, 4G or not |

Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???
If they make me dump my SERO plan to get an EVO then I expect new contract pricing on the hardware. There is no way im increasing my monthly payout plus paying full price for the hardware.

Also, if the Evo will be available in non-4G markets, you can't force the customers into a 4G plan, when 4G data isn't available. If you have an Everything Data Plan, you should be able to get the phone. My gut feeling tells me you will be charged for the hotspot app, if you use it, and that's it. |
Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???
From reading all this information about the EVO 4G plans. I don't get what the fuss is all about. The screenshot says that you will need to have a bundled voice/message/data plan which I believe is all the Everything Data Plans right now. So I would assume that if your on a Everything Data plan you shouldn't have any issues. There is not additional cost for the 4G data plans. just my two cents.

Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???
if anyone can link to the article because i cant find it. If i remember correctly i think it was during CTIA Dan specifically said Wimax will not cost more. Now the wimax hotspot / phone as modem feature im sure will cost me. As it does on any other device which can be used to tether.

Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???
ahhh here we go.
Sprint CEO Confirms 4G On Your Phone Will Not Cost Extra, he said the following: 9:33AM "3G’s kind of getting exhausted. I talk to my network guys, and it’s like Scottie in the engine room… ’she’s going as fast as she can!’" 9:34AM With 4G, "because we can produce a gigabyte cheaper, we can offer more to the customer." 9:35AM "It’s like standard def versus high def, but with that analogy, you paid more for the better service. With 4G, we’re giving you more for free ." Does this satisfy the most skeptical among you? It sure sounds confirmed to me. |
Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???
now until the device is released i say no more plan discussion needs to be made and this should be closed. I don't think Dan Hesse would make the statement like that at 1 of the largest summits for wireless and then change his mind.

Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???
I honestly don't see Sprint trying to make people switch to different and more expensive plans if they are already a customer and have an Everything plan. With 4G only being in 25 markets, they don't have the kind of footprint needed for leveraging their customers into a forced plan switch with a greater cost.
They are probably just making new account types for the EVO (and other upcoming 4G handsets) so that once they have a much larger geographic 4G offering, they can raise the price on those plans, if they so choose. Otherwise, how can they require a more expensive plan for users like me who live in an area where 4G is not even slated for implementation through the end of this year? We only have a few weeks to wait but I am confident that Sprint is smart enough to know that a forced plan change to more expensive plan for existing customers who would see no real benefit from the plan change would be a dreadful mistake. |
Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???
rain if you remember back in the old days when there was 1xrtt and evdo....when you get an evdo device your plan code had to change but your plan remained the same. They have to do this for network authentication. same way that when you tether it uses a diff username then when you use regular web on a device.

I remember this pretty clearly, as I upgraded from the 6600 to the 6700 at that time (like I'm sure most of this board did). |

Are you saying Power Vision was the same price as Vision? Check this old thread: http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/sp...n-service.html Back at that time, there were countless threads just like it on all the forums. Power Vision was more expensive, and everyone was trying to keep their old Vision plans (which worked with the 6700, by the way, if you were lucky enough to get a rep that would activate the phone). I wasn't lucky enough to get a rep that would activate my 6700 on my old plan, and my bill went up. If I recall correctly, it was like $5 per month more. I htink my Vision was $10 per month, and Power Vision was $15 for the cheapest one (unless you got a retenions offer, which everyone started doing). I'm not saying 4G will cost extra, in fact, I'd be pretty surprised if it did. But EVDO did cost more than 1X back then. Back then Sprint wasn't losing millions of customers every quarter though, and was actually making a profit every quarter. Plus, there was no iPhone and Sprint had the best phone lineup. |

I'm telling you man, my bill went up when I bought the 6700. And I was one of the people who tried over and over to find a rep that would activate it on my existing plan, but nobody would do it. This was all over the forums back then too. Everyone was outraged that the cost was going up, when it had proven to work on the old plans for the lucky ones that got it activated on the old plans. |

"I have a grandfathered vision plan and I have concluded that the "The 2nd rep told me that I would have "unlimited Power Vision" but that it would be equivalent to the lowest plan so it meant I had only access to a limited number of channels. But for internet access, it would remain the same." is correct. I still have unlimited vision, unlimited SMS and it works just fine. Every rep will tell you something different to try to scam you into buying a pricey plan. Stick with what you have." |
Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???
I have to agree with SaltyDawg. When I first made the leap to the 6700 I was told my $10 vision was incompatiable because vision could not support evdo and to get the powervision with picture mail which is what I had with my Sanyo 8100 would cost me $20 or $25 a month. I actually had a rep call me a liar and tell me Evdo was available to me and i needed to make the change. I even had to put a store rep on the phone with the rep to convince him that it was not available. Long story short I found a rep who sold me the 6700 at a new customer price and powervision for $15.

I can't remember that far back but if I am not mistaken I think my plan stayed the same when I got my two 6700's but increased when I bought my two moguls, I think. |

That's what I have been saying all along- Sprint made people change plans to a more expensive Power Vision plan, but if you were lucky enough to find a rep that would do it, you could get it to work on the existing Vision plan (I was not lucky enough to get to keep my plan, and I had to pay more on a Power Vision plan). |
Re: New plan changes for EVO 4G???
I'll just wait for official word from Sprint.....
