Not always. It took hours to switch to my Mogul a while back while I was waiting for my Invisible Shield to be installed and dry on my Touch Pro 2. I'm sure it is supposed to be instantly, but there are glitches sometimes that you don't get with a SIM card.

I bet your SIM card still worked when you popped it in though. No rep telling you to upgrade your plan, and possibly extending your contract.

And none of those apps are as simple as a SIM card. And plus, they aren't compatible with every single platform out there. If I want to switch from a Touch Pro 2 to a RAZR for the evening, none of them will work for me.
