Re: Sizzle? Wha? TFT or OLED Capacitive?

... this is gonna be kind of a stupid question, but can someone clarify the differnce between oled, amoled, super amoled and tft? Is any one technology any better than the others or is it just preference? I hate to admit it but the iphone has the best (in my opinion) touch screen I have ever used (this opinion is based on sensitivity, responsiveness and feel). with the palm pre coming in at a close 2nd. What kind of screens are those?

Well the point I was trying to make was that the screencap linked said HTC Evo Sizzle. At one point there were two posted according to the first article I read. One that said "sizzle" and one that didn't so I was wondering if maybe there is a rumored higher end version to be released.

What you mention about the iPhones responsiveness and sensitivity is due it the capacitive touch screen. Instead of reading pressure as most touch screens on the marked do, the iPhone and a few others use capacitive touch screens that instead detect touch by responding to your body's electrostatic field. This means any time your skin comes into contact with the glass the phone knows it. This translates it much better response and easier sliding across the screen because it is not dependent on pressure, only contact.

TFT and OLED screens are the display technology. I can't explain them in detail, but OLED is newer and generally better technology. OLED's power requirements are it's major draw for devices. It uses very little power compared to previous display technologies resulting in much better battery life in devices with large screens. AMOLED and such are just different variations on the implementation of OLED screens. You can read more about them here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_LED and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TFT_LCD

That is not related to the above it more of capacitive screen(iphone,palm pre, EVO)..the other type is Resistive screen(Touch Pro 2 and most other windows mobile phones)

The Resistive screen is more precise but end being too precise for finger pressing and better with a stylus. The capacitive screen gives the advantage of multi-touch and using your hands better(doesn't work well with gloves sometimes though)

Now AMOLED is OLED..it stands for Active-matrix OLED..TFT is the old LCD tech..OLED is more energy efficient, brighter and etc....

Those are capacitive screens, I can say from personal experience the Hero has a MUCH more responsive screen then my Pre does by leaps and bounds.

AMOLED
Advantages of Super over regular AMOLED
•20% brighter screen.
•80% less sunlight reflection.
•20% more battery life.
OLED
TFT

I know the colors and brightness on my Moment screen (AMOLED) is just amazing. It is night and day IMO over say the Hero when holding the two side by side.

Re: Sizzle? Wha? TFT or OLED Capacitive?

the only reason i can see why they changed from amoled to tft again is the pentile pixel layout they had to do on there amoled screens. there was alot of backlash about that on alot of tech sites. and since this is more of a multi use device and not just a media player they wanted to get better focus on letters

Re: Sizzle? Wha? TFT or OLED Capacitive?

@gten
@hittingsmoke

Thanks a lot it makes a lot more sense to me now... The only phone I ever had that was capacitive was the palm pre and i loved the touch screen on that. All of my other phones have been resistive and not very responsive compared to the pre so of course i hope for the newer better oled technology too just so i can say i have it but as long as its capacitive and not like my tp, tp2, mogul, vogue, old treos, and other resistive screen phones I will be happy!
