Calendar won't show all tasks

For a while, my calendar had no problems showing the tasks. Now, some of the dated tasks are randomly missing. They do appear in Tasks application though. I deleted and re-created account sync but it doesn't seem to help. I depend on Calendar widget to get a glance of daily activities, and it's important that I can see the tasks. Any ideas ?

this may be obvious, but you've chosen "all calendars" right?

Yes. Well, it got better. Did a factory reset. It now shows ALL tasks... most of them twice. Even if I only show one calendar - "task". Google calendar seems to create an uneditable all-day event to show tasks in Android calendar, and they somehow get duplicated. This only happens in phone calendar - the task application doesn't have any duplicates. This happens in every calendar application I tried, which makes me think it's Google thing and not just calendar-specific. Now, I also have a Nexus 7 tablet, and on it there's no way (that I know of) to show tasks in Calendar, and thus I can't reproduce the issue.

For now, I just disabled showing Tasks in calendar, instead I show Calendar and Task widgets side by side - which is not the best way on a phone. Oh well. Something is royally screwed up here.

Another question - is there a way to set how far back Google calendar is synced on the phone ? It seems to go only a month or so back.
