Any word on the car mount?

I know it's coming, but anyone have anymore info? Day of release? Some distant date in the future?

what kind of car mount do you want? because any exisiting, adjustable size PDA car mount would work

Re: Any word on the car mount?

I'm waiting for one made specifically for the EVO, Adjustable ones are aggravating. Hopefully HaiCom comes out with one soon, I've like the ones I've had for the TP1 and TP2.

Weren't they coming out with one specifically for EVO that makes EVO go into car mode or something? I remember reading about this on some blog (too much EVO info, forgive me for not knowing sources)

Yes Meanee: this was said at the Sprint launch party

Re: Any word on the car mount?

I think the OP was talking about the Car Mount listed in the graphic in this article:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/11/h...sprint-stores/

Looks like an actual HTC branded car mount (I believe they already have one for the HD2 so it might be the same one)... haven't seen much in the way of pricing, but based on the graphic, should be available at launch day.

Just thought about this.... will either accessory work with a case on the Evo? That would suck if not but its very likely I'd think

Re: Any word on the car mount?

I wish Ram mounts would make one for the EVO... I have one in my work truck that we use for my Motorola MC75 and its the beast of a mounting system. Its $$$ but well worth it.

Re: Any word on the car mount?

No word on ETA from ProClip other than the fact that they will be making one as per this email I received from them yesterday.

Thank you for your interest in our ProClip Holders. At this time we do not have a Holder for the HTC EVO 4G. We do anticipate making one, however due to the large number of new products we are developing, we cannot give a specific date as to when this will be available. You will be notified by e-mail as soon as the Holder has been received at our warehouse and is ready for online ordering.

The HTC EVO does not fit in the holders for the HTC HD2. The width is the same but the HTC EVO is slightly thicker which doesn’t allow the device to slide in. Also the charging port and HDMI ports on the HTC EVO don’t line up with the HTC HD2 holders.

Re: Any word on the car mount?

I've been reading up and also talked to a Sprint Manager and I was told End of June or July for the mount and dock. I guess they found a few flaws in regards to the dock, 720P output was only doing 480P, so they pulled it to further rectify the problem. The mount I'm not quiet sure on...I also heard that it was supposed to be released on launch day...but what it seems like is either they had a issue with it or they just don't want to release it yet.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Looks like we might have to wait it out, I can't wait to get one but I don't want a universal one.

Re: Any word on the car mount?

I can't wait either. My Evo actually fits snugly into my old garmen mount with its case on. I have one of the best buy cases with the rubbery grip to it which holds it in. I couldn't resist using it a little but scared that it will fall so I don't plan on doing it often lol but it really makes me want it more. I hope there will be some way to make all screens use landscape when the official docks finally drop

Re: Any word on the car mount?

I agree I want a car mount ASAP... I have a nice Garmin in my car... but my garmin doesn't sync to my google contacts or connect to my e-mail and ask if I want to map to this location... or listen to me talk and pic a location... etc.

However what the Garmin DOES do that the evo doesn't with stock apps... is work in an area with no internet... I camp, backpack, hike, kayak, etc... lots of places my google maps fails me... GPS works FINE... just no maps from the internet LOL.

Anyone know how to 'cache' google maps in advance? that would ROCK.

Seems as though someone found a way to make the HD2 Car mont work for the EVO... Seems to be a simple mod as well... If ayone is willing, it would be nice to have a how to written...

Give thanks to olimar for the find...

The how to is simple: he snapped off one of the clips. That's it. The charging port slides over to where the micro usb jack is and is held in place by the micro usb and the clip on the top. Both of the side clips are rendered useless, although you can see in his pictures that he left one on anyway.

It's a little sloppy; I'll wait for the EVO specific one.

Found these...looks promising. I'm thinking of investing on the "friction" dash mount. I live in CA...and its "illegal" to attach anything to the windshield.

Actually it is not completely illegal to mount to windows in cali
SB 1567 made it legal but
The new law, however, has an odd clause that specifies the GPS must be mounted within "a 7-inch square area in the lower corner of the windshield farthest removed from the driver (the passenger side) or in a 5-inch square area in the lower corner of the windshield nearest to the driver (the lower left corner of the windshield)." That means the most common and useful front-and-center GPS windshield mount is still banned

This makes me so thankful I don't live in that backwards state. ;)

Just got mine yesterday. Drove to work with it and no problems. Phone seems pretty stable in both landscape and portrait mode. So far I give it a thumbs up if all you're looking for is a simple mount. It doesn't require any silly discs to be stuck to your phone, and it's alot more sleek and cleaner than most other universal mounts.

Re: Any word on the car mount?

I just ordered one on eBay I'll post my review when I get (if there is any interest). The one in the above uTube was also for sale, but I didn't go for that one as I felt the gooseneck design would result is a lot of shaking.

So, the one I actually bought seems to have a more rigid design. The downer is it's coming from Hong Kong so it's going to be awhile :(

scosche makes a couple of car mounts that may work. I bought the power socket mount (includes 2 usb ports...so NO need to buy an extra car charger. I'll have pics later this evening to post...definitely worth the $25. Very secure...and IT WILL FIT EVEN IF YOU HAVE A CASE for your EVO

Just tested the generic car mount I bought on Ebay for my TP2 and my Evo fits in it even better than my TP2. Sweet, saves me a few bucks!!

Re: Any word on the car mount?

Go to Proclip www.proclipusa.com and check out their mounts. I have used them for the last 4 years and are great. You have a mount that clips into a place on your dash, then attach the phone holder to the mount. Each piece is made specifically for the car and the phone. If you change phones all you have to do is change out the holder, the mount attached to the car stays. I got an email from Proclip's that the Evo holder should be available mid August.

Re: Any word on the car mount?

Bought the Kensington gooseneck mount mentioned in this forum and have to say it works very well! I have a TPU case and the phone fits in there solid. The windshield mount does vibrate a bit so I may build a different mount that will be more stable and use the A/C vent adapter to mount it. Highly recommended.
