Its not necesaraly a bad thing per say
its just that HTC Locked it down on their last update. And inorder to root it you have to register your phones serial number on HTC.com and then they give you a key to unlock your hboot.

Once your unlocked, you can flash a recovery and from there new roms and and have root access to your phone

Problem is that once you have done this, HTC voids your warentee

Honestly, stock rom is nice, I wont lie
I use a stock 2.3.4 sprint rom

But I like tweaking stuff. Im making a custom taskbar atm.

If your not rooted, you cant do that :/

I was lucky enough to get a phone with hboot 1.30 when I recieved my phone

So I was able to root without htc having anything to do with it

Word of advice...Opera does not seem to be able to get online when using PDAnet tablet. Internet explorer will tho.

Re: Can you still install an .apk if it's blocked

i ran for a while with my evo unrooted, but after rooting.... so much better. mainly, you can get rid of all the sprint crap on your phone. i live in long island, why the hell do i need a nascar app? lol, i'm not some meth head southerner.... but yeah, totally recommend rooting for that reason alone. i use wireless tether all the time with my laptop, or if i'm working and my internet goes down (happens a lot during storms), so it comes in handy.

So you recommend rooting only for those people that aren't "meth head Southerners" that watch Nascar? Your logic for removing stock apps and rooting a phone is flawless.
