Root 3D with new bootloader 1.5?
 

I just purchased a new Evo 3D yesterday and the store employee downloaded all the ota updates. I have bootloader 1.5 and it says locked. The root method available in the forum wont work. Device is not supported. Any other ideas or do I just have to wait till there is support for this.

im sure if the way i did it will work but mine is up to date on everything and its rooted

You have to use HTC's method to unlock the phone. It's explained in detail in several threads on xda. I'll post a relevant one below :).

I will just wait patiently for a 1 click or simpler root process. This phone has been the only phone I don't mind not rooting yet. It's awesome no matter what. Of course, I can't wait for wifi tethering but for now easy tether will do.

I used this method but it effed my phone completely up when I tried updating the pri/radio. Had to go into bootloader then usb fast boot and unroot and use the HTC RUU to get it back to working order.

at the end of the HTC instructions for root on their site there is an ADB command. I couldn't run the RUU until I did that.

fastboot oem lock

^this was it. If successful your bootloader screen will read relocked instead of unlocked or something to that effect.

I read that root by HTC is sneaky compared to Revolution method.

I regret the OTA 1.5 upgrade! I am still waiting for the root.

Htc method looks complicated, its not. You will be done in minutes. Rooted with google talk with video and wifi tether. Rather have the native hotspot working, but we cant all have what we want... yet

I could not wait any longer. So this past weekend I root with the HTC version.

Now I am using CleanROM. I love it!

I dont regret cause anything can tether WIFI free thru my phone now.

My phone is faster and cleaner and I love it. I use the cook CleanROM.

The only thing is that S-On is still on. But I think it is pointless on a CDMA phone unless you want to do Cricket? Am I right on this?

I finally went HTC as well. One thing I am not sure about. I used fastboot to flash recovery on my PC to flash a rom w/custom kernal. If thats the case, why cant you just run fastboot from the phone, run recovery, and then flash?

Ok so down right noObish here but I dont want to hear crap about it cause Im gana be new to android and I have to ask these things

I talked to a friend that works at the sprint store here and he has a rooted evo 3d
He said that He bough his phone on launch weekend.
His phone came with Boot 1.5... wich is apearently ONLY rootable from HTC correct?

There is no other method then having HTC root it and blacklist your phone from repairs... as far as I understand.

But a few things I reading say that people rooted befor 1.5 update, but the guy I talked to said that his phone came out of the box with 1.5 already and he got it the weekend it came out

So whats the deal with 1.5?
have we just not figured it out yet?

the only way to root hboot 1.50 is the HTC way
witch is on any E3D shipped after 8/18

anyone that got the E3D befor this date had either Hboot 1.30 for any E3D shipped 6/20 or Hboot 1.40 6/24 they were able to use Revolutionary root method

I myself got mine on the 6/20 so i had hboot 1.30 any Sprint premier customer was albe to order theirs early

S-off = signature verification off
meaning you can flash a rom/kernel not signed by HTC/Sprint

oh ok that makes more sense.
What was the release date for the E3D cause the rep I talked to said that he got his the weekend it came out and out of the box it had 1.5
he said that he had to root through htc
But.. if possible Id like to try and avoid that. I mean I really only want wifi tether..

Is there anyone trying to make a work around root?
or has everyone given up and just let people go with the HTC method

the release date for the E3D was 6/20/11
if he had Hboot 1.5 the he got his 8/18 or after

i believe the Revolutionary team is working on rooting hboot 1.5 but not sure when that will be its been almost 2 months with no new root for hboot 1.5

if i was you i would look for one on ebay or in the bargain center with an older hboot or already rooted with non-htc method

Thing is I can get one from sprint for my sero upgrade for like 150.
I HIGHLY dought Ima find one on ebay for that price lol

not a good one anyway

I dont mind waiting awhile longer for the rev to work it out.
But if its been 2 months already with nothing to show.. what are the odds that they get it any time soon?

its hard to say cuz the hard part is cracking the hboot it took them a month to crack it last time
they can go along time with nothing to show then one day they find a flaw in the code and bam its cracked

I mean since the htc way does unlock it, there has to be a way.
Is it possible to just go through what the htc method does to unlock it and figure out the key points and implement that into the rev method?

the Revolutionary way worked the same way the HTC method
but when 1.5 came out the master key Revolutionary used to unencrypt hboot 1.3 and 1.4 wouldnt work anymore

I hate these locked bootloaders on htc. My wife wants the htc rhyme but i know its locked and will probably never be rooted. Htc hasnt kept their promise either as the phone is not listed on htc.dev site.

I dont see it getting any attension for root from the developers end either.
But if you spam htc maybe they will list it

But in any case, is the rhyme that bad a phone out of the box that you need to root it or are you looking for the all powerfull wifi tether lol

only if your a master hacker that can get the master key from HTC server cuz you just get a key after you enter your serial

I see.. so when you enter the sn it generates a one time key..

But what Im trying to say is that we have to download the htc method to root right?
If thats the case isnt it possible to open up everything and read the script for the files we have to download?

Or do we just do it all on their site?

yes you download fastboot and drivers from htc these aren't E3D specific but we already have all that stuff what we need is the key the key is generated on HTC's end


if they can get in to the hboot yes they can make a keygen but gettin in hboot has been the hard part

If you guys are waiting for the 1.5 to be unlock again other than HTC way, then the day may never come.

Its like a gambler waiting to strike it rich at a Casino and that day never come too.

When that time comes, its time to get a new phone.

So I did the HTC unlock and now I am enjoying my free Wifi now.

well I understand that.
The thing is this would be this first "new" phone I get for sprint.
Every other sprint phone Ive had except for maybe the one I started off in nextel like 10 years ago I had purchased from a 3rd party and just swapped the activation.
I never bought one directly from them.

But because I am on SERO, if I get a new phone now, regaurdless of where or how, I have to upgrade my sero contract to suport 4g, even though My area does not have it.

So that being said.. there is not point in me getting a used one or whatever the case because my contract will STILL go up by 20 bucks a month.

SO I figure just get it direct from Sprint

And because Im doing that, this will be the first phone Ive had In almost forever with a factory warentee.

And all I really want is wifi.
I like the evo 3d pretty much stock.
(I cant get rid of the 3d feature or I would lol)

But thats my concern.
Wifi isnt worth loosing my warentee. It wouldnt be a concern if I could just go back and undo everything if I could.
but alas.. I cant
So Im content with waiting.
At the very least a few more months
