So its actually inside the phone itself?
like holding f9 when you turn on a computer

like Ive said befor Im comming from a whole different world cause I still use windows mobile right now,
but with my tp2 it has bootloader, is that ecencially the same thing?

And on a different note, hboot is different then the recovery correct?
Ive rooted and flashed my brothers samsungs befor but not htc, so the whole bootloader thing for an android is throwing me for a spin lol

the tp2 bootloader is essentially the same

yes recovery is something different
think of recovery as like windows rescue cd kinda

I know what the recovery is I was just making sure that on the htcs it wasnt just being called something different, I learned all about it dealing with my brothers crappy samsung intercept lol.
(I accidently soft bricked and boot looped it for a few days cause the rom I flashed wasnt compatable with the recovery I had pushed into it)

As far as the tp2, when I unlocked it the first time and flashed my first rom, idk how it happened but it locked itself befor flashing the rom and it softbricked aswell. I had to rerun the unlock and then the sprint official 6.5 update and it fixed it.

But when it locked itself, the phone ececially didnt have a rom to run off of but would still load the bootloader

Does that mean that a phone that had absolutly nothing saved in the phone (as far as an operating system goes) could still have a hboot?

system and data partitions can be blank and hboot will still be present

like a pc you can have no OS and bios wil still boot up

I see, so theres no way to pull the codes out from the hbood since its not a rom related file or anything like that

you can pull the code thats how we got root last time... they broke the previous encryption on the older hboots but the HTC put out a new hboot with new encryption

like i said earlier when they brake the encryption with brute force or whatever they can build a keygen off the hboot

Re: Root 3D with new bootloader 1.5?

9.725/10 it will already have hboot 1.5 so it doesn't look like you will be flashing any ROMs anytime soon given your warranty concerns. I am still on Stock since July and I never flashed my 3D. Just recently I decided to, only to find out that I had to go through HTC since I was on 1.5 and that there would not be any way to flash back to Stock and re Lock just in case I had to take it in. I have PDA Net for my laptop, so the WiFi Tether isn't that big of a deal unless I get a WiFi tablet, I just wanted to overclock and have a cooler interface. Also, watching the 15 min video of the HTC root method makes me more content with Stock...LOL

lol, I just want the wifi.
I like the stock and I dont see need to overclock it. It runs fine stock

If my xbox 360 would accect usb tether id leave it be. but as it stands Id have to pdanet to my desktop then bridge to an ethernet from my descktop to my xbox.

It sucks by then..

I'm sure Revolutionary will crack the new HBoot. It took about 3 months for the 2.16 HBoot to be cracked on the OG Evo, so I wouldn't worry about them not being able to figure this one out.

They may be able to, but is there any reason when a working solution already exists? I wonder how much time they would devote to something that is already 'solved' by HTC. You may not be able to flash things like people always have and have assumed it the 'only/correct' way, but you can end up with the same result of a custom ROM/kernel. About the only thing I haven't seen done is downgrading HBOOT (which doesn't really do much other than a few extra adb commands using the engineering HBOOT).

S-off would be nice at the least

What is the important reason to have s-off?

From what I understand s-off (standing for security-off from what Karl told me) allows people to flash custom kernals.

Correct me if Im wrong, Im still trying to figure this all out.

Re: Root 3D with new bootloader 1.5?

Oh I see. Is kernal the same as ROM?

I remember kernal is something inside the corn from some computer science class.

ROM is the operating system itself, that one is pretty obviouse
The kernal on the other hand, from what I can understand, is a linux based script that act like a decision maker between the user and the hardwear

The kernal tells the ROM what componants are available for use and tells the ROM how fast to run, what to prioritize and what to exclude ect.
Pretty much, (from my understanding) when you tell the phone to do something, the ROM submits a request to the kernal, and then the kernal replies by telling the hardwear how to go about your request

Some kernals make the phone faster and more powerful.
Thats why having s-off is somewhat of a big deal cause the kernal can drasticly improove the performance of the ROM

Re: Root 3D with new bootloader 1.5?

you can still flash kernels with s-on just gotta do it from fastboot

Re: Root 3D with new bootloader 1.5?

C:\rootevo3dnew>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.152s]
writing 'unlocktoken'...
(bootloader) unlock token check successfully
OKAY [ 0.006s]
finished. total time: 0.158s

This is what I am getting when I get to loading the Unlock bin. I have everything needed to be installed. This is not my phone, its a friends and it had been updated so IDK if the new OTA had blocked this method right now. Im at a loss for whats going on. Im in Fastboot USB and get to push this but thats it, no unlock screen like in the video. Checking the file its 256 bytes so IDK why its showing (0 kb) pushed.
HBoot is still 1.50.000 and LOCKED. Any suggestions??
