Video Converter Help...

Just bought my EVO 3D yesterday. I have some videos I have been trying to play but no luck anyways I have two questions

1. Are there any recommendations for a good video converter?
2. What do I need to change the file extension to? This is my first time even doing this.

I'm using Freemake video converter it's free. You should customize the video size to qHD 960x540
