I also considered waiting despite the news from HTC. I got to play with a samsung droid charge over the weekend and it was awesome. I helped my friend root it with ease. The super amoled screen is beautiful. The phone is a little light and feels like it could break if dropped. Samsung has yet to confirm any dates for the Within, so we could be waiting for a while. I also heard they might be a physical keyboard on it which is a total deal breaker for me. I hate physical keyboards. They make the phone way to bulky.

I think once we get our unlocked bootloader, the battery life will get better. We also have the backing of some of the best rom cooks in the business. This phone has so much potential is ridiculous.
