Can the 3D tether out of box?

Can this phone be tether when it comes out?

Using USB or wirelessly?

If not, I am going to wait.

If you pay for it then yes. If not, you'll have to wait for root.

Tapa tapa tapa

Re: Can the 3D be tether?

Pay as in pay for the tether software or pay for the Sprint data service?

I thought that anything in previous version of Android will work on the latest Android OS. No?

Re: Can the 3D be tether?

I think he means pay for the tethering service through Sprint.

Also, don't we need a specific program/procedure to root this particular phone, or will the existing ones work?

Re: Can the 3D be tether?

Yah, root and hack tether. I guess I am not going to the the 3D right away.

Right now I am tether to my TP2 wireless WIFI and I am at work and 3 GPS program install on it too.

SO I dont know if I am in a hurry.

it's alittle pre-mature to ask this, as there is no root yet.....but I would guess in time, yes, it will be rooted and have wifi tether

Re: Can the 3D be tether?

How long does it take before it is rooted?

How long it took the Evo 4g?

To this day, the Arrive has not been rooted yet. Very sad but I am not going Window this time.

Re: Can the 3D be tether?

It all depends on the info available to the Dev's who are working on it. We had root for the Evo day one but it wasn't a simple one click root. It was a little more involved and those not familiar with Android and ADB might have had issues. There really is no telling but I would assume it won't take very long. We still need to find out when it's coming out before anything :)

Re: Can the 3D be tether?

Is there any tether Android app that can do this:

1. Can tether with USB or sent out a WiFi signal?
2. Once tether is running, just plug in your USB to your laptop and you start surfing right away. No need to install any driver.

1. yes, there are several, but u need root
2. yes

as gTen mentioned, pdanet is another option, I don't believe it requires root.

There is no telling when...could take one day or one month.

it won't be long though...so if you don't wanna get it then don't and wait till you know it's rooted.

otherwise you're just running in circles with your questions

Hey, I am serious about this cause I need to tether so I dont want to use work network.

OK, I will try PDAnet first. First I need to get it to the phone and I know its not called Activesync. OK, I will google it.

I did the PDAnet just now. I got 4G coverage.

I dont see any improvement in up and down speed! I use the speedtest.net website.

Very disspointed.

How about you?

think he meant out of box, the original EVO 4G freash out of the box was able to Tether n DID NOT cost a dime, then they realized their mistake and issuued an upgrade to the software/firmware which took away the FREE tether(without being rooted).

PDANet app is free. I think it doesnt work on https only.

But the speed is horrible. What 4G speed ???

speed troubles are sprint/your area related not pdanet, buy the paid version if you want full roam of web.

Re: Can the 3D tether out of box?

Do you guys think PDAnet is worth buying?

I know if someone wanted to tether immediately on the EVO 3D, it's probably the only way to do it at this point. But if time weren't an issue, is there a reason to just buy it rather than find a way to do it after the phone is rooted?

chong67 07-01-2011 09:45 PM

Re: Can the 3D tether out of box?

Do you use https website? If not, then just get the free one until it is rooted. Unless you got $ to give away.

If time is not an issue dont buy that stuff. Just wait for root. Which looks like it will be out sometime tonight... If not very very soon per the dev for root. Following his twitter feed.

The root excitement has got me hyped. Especially staring at OMJs ROM, hah.

Thank you.

Re: Can the 3D tether out of box?

ATT DSL mess up termination early. Luckly I have rooted my 3D last week and now I can tether on the Wifi at least thru the weekend until I get Comcast next week.

I remember tether on my TP2 was a pain. The phone run warm.

The 3D is a different story. It is fast (I got 1/3 4G bar) and the phone is not warm at all. Battery is 75 deg F and battery is fully charged. I dont know if the dual core 1.2 processor helps? But I am loving it!

Disadvantage of pdanet:

You have to install the software on your computer.
It doesnt do wireless.

Wifi Tether is an open project. android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting
It sent out Wifi signal. Any computer/tablet/etc can get on it. No need to install any software on computer.

I think Sprint Hotspot does the same thing, but you have to pay Sprint.

I am averaging 2.35 mbps download.

Re: Can the 3D tether out of box?

I am able to talk on my phone at the same time tether.

Is this only in 4G or 3G or this 3D can do it all?

This is some good sheit or what?
