Re: Any news on Froyo?

Ugghh, I want it soooo bad!!

All I truly want is 720p recording and 3g wireless tether to be stock and easy to set up. For some reason I can't get my tether to work

EDIT: Got it fixed by following the instructions at the link below. Basically I just needed a driver of sorts.

It will show that your are up to date, because "officially" you are. What others are talking about with OTA refers to a leaked update from a week or two ago that was never actually pushed out to the phones by Verizon, but it is available to download and install from sites like XDA. It could be risky though, but I installed it shortly after it was leaked and haven't had any issues.

Running backup now, and about to take the plunge and try it out.

Re: Any news on Froyo?

Installed without any problems.

Not really anything new that jumps off you right off the bat (comparing it to the leak OTA)
Keeps the droid bootscreen and sound.
There are a couple new widgets: Flashlight, on/off toggles, and news widgets.
Internet now downloads in background instead of bringing you right to the download screen.
New unknown caller icon.
I'm sure there's lots more, but waiting for my backup to restore everything so I can mess around with it.

Edit:
Facebook now shows up as a calendar, it displays birthdays. Hopefully since they messed with Facebook they fixed the contact pic sync issues...
It flat out hauls:
Linpack: 37.333
Quadrant: 1247
720p video recording seems to be improved much better also. Working on actually getting numbers to back that up.

All sounds very promising!! I was thinking about rooting my phone, but since this just came out, and is supposed to roll out in a week or so i'll probably hold off. As silly as it sounds one thing i'm most excited about is a working flashlight app, assuming it uses the LEDs of course.

Few Questions:
So what are you overall first impression of Froyo?
Did they include the option to disable sense?
has battery life improved?

Thanks!

Yep, the flashlight app uses both the LEDs on the back and has 3 different brightness settings. Only thing I wish it had was a widget.
First impressions is that due to Sense, the only real change with Froyo that we'll notice is the speed difference. Most of what I'm seeing are changes HTC made with Sense. (Which I'm not complaining, I've liked what HTC has done with Sense/TouchFlo since I first got TouchFlo 2D working on my Apache)
The on screen keyboard is also slightly different. It has the same look, but it now has the .com key in portrait, and they ditched the key to hide the keyboard.
Something I don't like is all the junk that is included: Amazon MP3, City ID is still on there, and they added VZ Navigator.

You still can't disable Sense, unless I'm just looking past it.
My battery life has not been great, but I have hardly put the phone down this morning. (On a side note: Stocks and news were set up automatically in sync at some ridiculous auto update intervals. 4 hours for stocks and 1 hour for news if I remember correctly. I killed stocks and set news to manual)

On my way to grab breakfast this morning I shot a video. The color is off because I jammed the phone between the mirror and the headliner, not paying attention to the tint strip at the top of the windshield. It's a long boring, blue tinted video, but it at least shows the framerate isn't too bad. I'll try to do something better this afternoon.

wow thanks for the answers and video! i'll agree the frame rate does not look nearly as terrible as some of the videos people shot with the leaked OTA update that was specifically for 720p video.

It is almost hard to believe that this phone could be faster, i hardly ever wait for anything to happen, but i'll take it!

I look forward to any other info and thoughts you have about the update.

Thanks again!!
