Re: Another look at Android memory management, and why task killers are not bad
nicely written opinion
i have my setting set to only show the main apps running, nothing core... and every once in awhile when im not doing anything on my phone (not syncing, using pandora etc) i just do a kill all... takes me from 30-80 Mb up to about 170Mb and helps out a lot... i dont use the autokill feature, it only takes 2 seconds max to manually do it, even faster if you have the widget... |

Re: Another look at Android memory management, and why task killers are not bad

has any1 put any thought into the "Spare Parts" app, you can put applications into aggressive mode which is supposed to close apps when there "service" is no longer needed. At least thats what I got out of it maybe I should keep an eye on my ram and see how it acts with this feature on???

Re: Another look at Android memory management, and why task killers are not bad
like you guys I came from WM to android. I have found the same thing, 50/50. it is almost dead even(but no one had proven the "Bad" part yet). i want ot know how it can hurt (if any).
my question though, how do you tell how much memory is left without ATK??? i looked but can't find it. do you need that app?

Re: Another look at Android memory management, and why task killers are not bad
If people do not want to use a Task Killer they can go to Settings> applications and do a force close
There is also a another area called "Runnings Services" Which you can also close. I have them both as icons on my screen for fast easy ways to shut down programs. |

yes but in "Applications" you have to open EVERY one to see if it's running or not. I just played with it and noticed I had things running havent used for days(and i shut down to charge EVERY night). it would take me an hour to go through them all. time for ATK i think. Unless I'm missing something. do you know how you tell whats running without clicking on it.(in applications) EDIT: WOW!!!!!!!!! just by shutting down the few programs I had time to find that were running made my batt much better. I know it's not an exact science but I use my phone basically the same every day (used for and at work). by 3:00 i put on charger so i can get through the rest of the day and it's usually at 50 to 60%. i tried the shut down trick while it was at 78%(around 2:00) and now at 3:45 it's at 74%. Much better!!!!! Last edited by wedgemoose; 06-03-2010 at 03:48 PM. |
