Re: Droid Eris System Dump? ANYONE???
The ROM dump is used to create new ROM versions for the Eris and other devices by retrieving all of the system files.
Rooting basically gives you higher user permissions on your phone allowing custom ROMs to be loaded, a wider variety of apps to be installed and overall more control over your phone. It's not quite that simple but that is the general idea. |

Re: Droid Eris System Dump? ANYONE???
Thanks, Pjsockett. I appreciate the explanation.
![]() Would I need to do rooting in order to get the GPS nav to work on this phone or is this function just not available for this phone due to the limitation of the android 1.5 ver? If 2.0 ver becomes available, would that be something I can simply download from HTC or verizon website and get the GPS working properly? Also what other really cool apps would I be missing out if I don't have access to the phone with rooting? Any examples? Thanks! |

HUH? GPS works just fine for the Droid Eris. I have about 10 GPS enabled apps (Google Maps, CO-Pilot Navigation, the standard weather Widget, the standard Footsteps widget, and a handful of other small apps [like Compass, etc... that all are location aware and working great). You may just have your GPS turned off. Google Maps won't turn it on by default. IF off, it'll just use the cellular triangulation. Make shortcut to the GPS switch and you can turn it on/off at whim to save battery.
