update 3-29-10: Sprint PRL is updated to 60663
 

Updated 3-29-10: Just flashed shipped and noticed that my when updating the prl that is changed form 60662 to 60663. Hopefully this will improve coverage for some! There are 3 ways to update prl:

1.To update prl while on the shipped rom, go to Start>Settings>System>scroll down to the bottom and select Update PRL.

2. If you are on a custom rom without Update prl in Settings>System tab, you can install this cab to get it (works on most custom roms). Just install, soft reset and it will be there. Then follow the instructions above. Only for Sprint users.

I'm on a sprint rom but update prl has NEVER worked for me. I always update manually (I know my msl). Can anyone upload the file here?

it's not under any menu I can find - running latest NRG.

Hello after i install it, I normally soft reset my device and once installed since your on nrgz28 i believe you go to settings and system and t should be at the bottom way down :] if it's not there for you let me know so i flash to nrgz28 and check it out :p I love flashing...

does tihs work with custom rom Mighty? will updating prl mess up the settings?

I updated the prl, but now my "1" voicemail dials some strange number different area code. Data does not work either. I changed msid and mdn to 1111111, then changed back to my true values. still did not work. trying hard reset now. Hard reset does not work either. next step reflash. any other suggestions?

Hey I used the cab eariler on the latest MightyROM and did a prl update and nope no settings messed up so just download the cab i posted eariler on first page and soft reset and enjoy =] hope i helped bro and hit thanks if you want.

yep. the cab should work on most generic roms as well. if anyone runs into any problems after installation, you can always flash back to the sprint shipped rom. normally since I am such an avid flasher, I update prl between flashes while still on the shipped rom. that way you don't need to install the cab. Either way though works

Just remember, this is only for Sprint users! installing this to another carrier may/could/will screw up your data settings

I actually believe it updates your roaming towers like let's say Sprint added a tower,so you have more coverage while roaming. Hope I'm able to explain as I'm a walking zombie in the morning D:

" PRL = (Preferred Roaming List)
The PRL is a list of information that resides in the memory of a digital phone. It lists the frequency bands the phone can use in various parts of the country. (The smaller bands within Cellular or PCS, technically called blocks.)

The part of the list for each area is ordered by the bands the phone should try to use first. Therefore it's a kind of priority list for which towers the phone should use.

For example, say you had a Sprint PCS phone, and were travelling in an area with no Sprint coverage, weak Verizon coverage, and strong Qwest coverage. The PRL would tell the phone to look for towers using Sprint's band for that area. Finding none, it might tell the phone to search for towers in Verizon's band next, perhaps because Sprint's roaming agreement with Qwest was not as favorable, or none existed. The phone would use Verizon's towers, as dictated by the PRL, even though Qwest might provide a better signal.

Since a PRL tells the phone "where" to search for a signal, as carrier networks change over time, an updated PRL may be required for a phone to "see" all of the coverage that it should. "

after you install it, go to Start>Settings>System>scroll down to the bottom, select update prl. if it doesnt work, it usually works on the second attempt. Installing the cab gives you the option to update prl and profile. I updated post one to reflect that. Sorry for the confusion. good luck.

it seems no matter what I do I can't make it show up in system, i've tried multiple soft resets, i've tried uninstalling the .cab (which you can't), i've tried reinstalling the .cab, however after it says it cant uninstall the old one I opt to install it anyway, and it still doesn't work.

should I try the 2nd zip a little bit further down on the main page?

yes, that one according to phil works. which rom are you currently using. I wonder if it has problems with certain generic roms.

my rom is right under my user name, I also tried through my msl code area (##778# menu) but through there I don't think you can do and automatic update, is there a place I can get the .prl file for the update?

Hello, I'm not sure but yes try the one i posted on my eariler post in page one and soft reset and then try update your prl if not maybe sprint isn't offering that update near your area towers? don't know if that makes sense what i just said but yeah I've never really heard of your issue and I'll look into the PRL file on google.

Yeah! just found it on the touchpro thread! will update the first post as well with it. You can manually update prl. do you know how to do this? I will post the 60653 prl in the first post along with instructions on how to manually update prls. Good luck guys!

using Philluvzashley's .cab I was able to get the icons, and the update went well as well.

I was just about ready to do the manual update to, oh well.

Yeah.. I just had a crapload of issues updating the PRL... but I finally got it working, and I'm currently on 60654.

Rx Power and Rx Ec/Io didn't get affected too much on the Telus radio. Ah well..

I am not sure to be honest. I was just over a Sprint this week and the tech onsite told me that it does have an impact. My impression was that it was updating the list of towers you can roam on but he said it also has to do with towers we normally use. Not sure about that but it could in theory provide better coverage or the opposite. For example, Sprint has outsourced all of the towers support and sold off most of the towers to 3rd parties. They are cost cutting mode so I wonder if they are reducing the amount of towers. just speculating though.

Surprisingly, because I live in New York City, I like to listen to satellite radio on my diamond when I run in the mornings (howard stern) using an app called C-APIsro. Running around the lake near my house I lose internet service at about 3 different points (2 miles around). Each time I update PRLs I hope that will stop, but it never does. The funny thing is I can listen in my car and drive an hour or two all around the city and never lose my connection, but at that stupid lake near my house it is always a problem!

I have gotten that several times before. Normally it works after a soft reset. sometimes prl updates dont work the first time. Good luck.

update, Just flashed shipped and noticed that my when updating the prl that is changed form 60654 to 60656.

The previous prl update was a bit strange, for a couple days it would update to 60655 but then reverted to 60654. Now it appears we are seeing it updated again now to 60656. give it a go and lets see what changed.
