Newbie Already Confused

I just bought a Sprint HTC Touch Diamond from a friend yesterday go it activated and everything worked fine. I have never owned a PPC before been much more of a Palm OS user in the past. I now have so many questions in the PPC world.

I'm going through the phone and am finding lots of stuff that I want to get rid of there is a ton of music on the phone from the pervious owner that I don't want. When trying to access the internet it will never fully connect to bring up webpages even if I go through the start bar to Opera or on the Internet tab. When I try to open numerous things on the phone I get an error message saying "Cannot open "Labyrinth". A critical componet is either missing or cannot start because program memory is unavaliable. Tap Start>Settings>System Tab>Memory, stop all programs that did not automatically stop, and try again>" I have used these links yesterday but am unable to use them now.

Any help on those would be greatly appericated. I'm sure I will have alot of questions in the future aswell. Thanks for the help in advanced.

Re: Newbie Already Confused

Yes have a SERO plan with Sprint, I turned the phone off took the battery out and allowed it to sit and booted it up and the internet now opens flawlessly.

What would a hard reset do? And how would I do one?

My appologies to all I'm now reading through some of the stickies and trying to figure out how to do a hard reset. But if soemoen could specify what it means I would greatly appericate it.

Re: Newbie Already Confused

A hard reset would return the phone to factory settings.
So in other words, it would clear everything off the phone.
There is also internal storage within the diamond which you can also format.

Re: Newbie Already Confused

By any chance would it require me to call Sprint and reactivate the phone again? What advantages would reformatting the phone do?

No it wouldnt have to be re-activated. It would be like you bought the phone from Sprint... instead of full of music, and programs you dont want/need, or how to use. I personally would suggest a hard reset. I would tell you how to do one, but my Diamond hasnt come in the mail yet, so im not really sure how to perform one. If its the same as the original Touch, then you hold the Send and end buttons while poking the soft reset button under the phone by the mic.

Re: Newbie Already Confused

it will keep your sprint account settings, so you won't have to call Sprint after a hard reset.
But it will clean up your phone from anything the previous owner did to it and give you a clean slate. Any third party program the previous owner had installed, any tweaks and costumizations he did, will be gone.

You can re-install any apps you miss after the hard reset, if you have them or know where to find them again on the net.

You can perform a hard reset by going into Start/Programs/Clear Storage
It will give you the option to either format the main storage or the internal storage.
The internal storage is just like a built-in sd card.
The main storage is what you need to clear to get your phone back to factory settings.

Re: Newbie Already Confused

No you dont have to call sprint to reactivate the phone.

Usually ppl hard reset their phones as a last resort when they have a problem with their phone (i.e. errors uninstalling programs, problems with GPS locks, etc.)

However, if I were in your shoes, I would hard reset to get a clean version of the phone. It would be like getting the phone out of the box (all the files your friend had in the phone would be deleted as well as programs that are not built into the rom for the phone)
