can anyone tell me which reg key holds the settings for the contacts and contact pictures?

Also is there one that controls the shorcuts you place in Windows/Start menu/Programs that i could backup and restore after flashing?

Contacts are stored in pim.vol ....

And the start menu is all directory/file structure. In my sig there is a link to a tutorial for customizing the start menu though.

Yeah I know how to get the shorcuts into the program menu manually, but I'm looking for a way to get them to auto install after flash, maybe using Sashimi or something like that.

Can you explain where to find pim.vol? I searched the registry and got nothing.

For the start menu, you would have to use xml to delete the original location, then copy it to where you want.

The file is located on your device at \pim.vol, off the root directory of the device. I would use pimbackup to restore your contacts.
