Re: Does HTC just make crappy phones and/or radios?
I have this same issue as well, you may have seen my posts about it. I'm now on my 4th Diamond so it's not a hardware issue. It's all not a SCI issue as mine is set to 0 and that just changes the possible delay for calls coming through but they still come through even with it at 2. It also has nothing to do with bars because the bars displayed are Ev bars and phone/text comes through 1x. Even so, my 1x bars are always super high during a call even though my phone doesn't work half the time.
After doing tons of searching I think I may have found what's wrong. On your dialpad type ##DEBUG# and see what your Rx Power is. It should be in the -50 to -60 range but it's probably in the -85dbm or worse range. As soon as it gets that low I begin to have issues with calls/texts not coming through. I then get everything through as soon as I place a call. What I don't understand is that if my signal is good enough to make an outgoing call, why can't it always receive calls/texts? I have sprint looking into the issue to see if they can somehow fix the towers in my area (I shouldn't have bad service as I live in the DC Metro area) and I'm also having them send me an Airave for free so that at least my phone should work in my house due to the boosted signal. We'll see if this works as it arrives in a few days. Hope this helps and if anyone has any other ideas, let us know! |

The bars are never an adequate gauge of signal power. Like akates said, use ##DEBUG(# for Sprint).

Re: Does HTC just make crappy phones and/or radios?
I have done a lot of this but I do not have the MSL # for this new device yet. Guess I need to get that; quick links to methods again? Note: Obviously I have not done the SCI change but right now it is at 2.
A little progress: I got an Airave from Sprint (yes free not because I'm a bloodsucker; I tried my best to never get this device but...) and it works great (once it got a darn GPS lock). I get all my text messages and such 1 hour late (lol, just kidding - the device [Airave] just never adjusted to Daylight Savings...). It seems to have helped my phone call receiving and text message receiving issues WHEN I AM IN range of it, but otherwise it's useless. Considering I spend a fair amount of time in class and such, I am far far away from it's limited range. I was unhappy today when I also saw that my phone had 3 bars battery life (~75%?) but when I let my phone idle for a few hours NEAR the airave, the damn phone DIED. Seriously?!?! A couple hours IDLE near a device that puts my phone's ##DEBUG# Rx Power ~-50dbm should NOT cause my battery to ****ing die. I am just so sick of this device and am wondering if I should just move onto a better maker, like Palm (Treo Pro as I doubt the damn Pre will be out on time and will not work on SERO). My mom's Moto Q9c works like a dream for her so I know it cannot all be rooted back to Windows faults (though they seem infinite!). Anyone who could solve this problem would get major, major, MAJOR KUDOS! Slmclarengt |

Dude it's your carrier not your phone. Try forcing it to roam and see if that helps.
