any trick to increase bitrate of voice phone calls?

Is there anything like the below for the diamond? Compared to a land line voices sound like crap on my cell phone. Is there anyway to increase the bitrate or change the voice encoding codec? For the older model the instructions were

Change Voice Codec (VOCODER) from EVRC to 13k on xv6700

First dial ##778
Tap on "Edit"
Enter Unlock Code 000000
Tap on arrow to upper left hand of screen to reveal drop down menu where it says "Display"
Select "CDMA Settings"
Click and hold on the "EVRC Enabled" line under the Settings column
Select "Edit"
Switch to "Disabled"
Then press "ok"
Click and hold on the "Home Page" line under the Settings column
Select "Edit"
Switch to "Voice 13k"
Repeat for "Home Orig" and "Roam Orig"

I have made those changes on my Touch Pro, so they should work on your Diamond. Can't say that I noticed much difference though.

Unless you live in a rural area, I would personally leave it on EVRC.

Although some argue that 13k sounds better, it has worse error correction. Therefore you have a higher likelyhood of getting garbled sound. And within a busy city, interference can occur quite often.

The tower need to support 13k, and not all of them do, so you need to check your location. This may mean that although you have signal at your currently location you may not be able to dial out because the tower doesnt support it. This alone would make me worry, if you had an emergency and you couldnt call 911 or something.

13k uses more bandwidth than EVRC (8k) so if your at in a busy cell grid, you may not be able to establish a connection to the site.
