Question MS Live Mesh and ROM flashing

OK. I'm kind of a flashing junkie. I'm currently stuck on the Mighty ROM. Lovin the 4.7. So I've created my own User Customization that makes my phone exactly as it was after I flash a new ROM. I recently started using Live Mesh to wirelessly and almost instantaneously sync my phone and computer(s). This works like a charm......until I flash. Anyone out there use Live Mesh? Tips? Tricks? Most importantly, any way to hold on to my folder sync settings through a flash so I don't have to completely restructure my Mesh every time?

Thanks,
David

Re: MS Live Mesh and ROM flashing

Well, I don't use livemesh, but I do have other programs that I do this with.

1. make sure you install livemesh to your storage card.
2. before playing, configure live mesh exactly the way you want it.
3. in your SDConfig file, make sure to have a shortcut to livemeh write to your start up menu.
4. Using Resco Registry, export the section of registry containing your LiveMesh data.

Now this is were you have a choice:

If you use a pre-made rom, open up resco, import your reg file into there, and that should work.

If you cook your own rom, use OEMizer, drag and drop your reg file into there, create your file, and then cook that into your rom. <-- that's the way I do it. Once I figure out how to cab it, I will, but right now, this works great.

Re: MS Live Mesh and ROM flashing

well, that's all a great idea and it's what i do with all my other programs. the problem here is that live mesh doesn't allow installation to the storage card. i'm thinking i'm gonna have to try hard resetting then taking a snapshot of the registry before and after installation and configuration of live mesh, then compare the snapshots and save important stuff to an xml for provisioning. hopefully that will configure my phone to use the same guid (assuming live mesh uses those or some similar identifying value) across hard resets and i won't have to keep uploading all my shtuff.

Re: MS Live Mesh and ROM flashing

I'm there with you drunkdavid, the first time I flashed after installing mesh I was pissed. i had to resync my entire photos/videos dir. Eventually after several flashes I just gave up on mesh, I tried dashwire which doesn't install to internal storage and didn't like it eating up my storage mem. Now I don't use anything cause it's just too much of a pain for a rom flashing junkie like myself. I'd love to see a real solution to this. Thanks!

Re: MS Live Mesh and ROM flashing

Do you guys mean MyPhone or Live Mesh, because they're two different technologies and it sounds like you're describing MyPhone. If you mean Live Mesh, where did you get the client download, the site still says "coming soon" for mobile devices.

Re: MS Live Mesh and ROM flashing

I would suggest just taking a snapshot of your registry after setting it all up.

And livemesh has a cab file floating around. I think I have one on my storage card.

Re: MS Live Mesh and ROM flashing

this is live mesh from microsoft, not myphone. i've got the live mesh cab if anyone wants it. just pm me.

as far as the backing up goes, i still haven't tried anything. but with mighty releasing his 4.8, i'm gonna try backing up this folder i stumbled upon in application data. it's called.... get this..... live mesh. so yea, i'm gonna back that up, flash to 4.8, backup a clean registry (for comparison later in case the folder thing doesn't work), restore the folder, install live mesh and run it. at this point i'll see how things go. i may have to restore the folder again after installation if live mesh overwrites anything on first run. anyway, that's the plan for now. i'll keep you guys updated.

Re: MS Live Mesh and ROM flashing

I love Live Mesh, been using dropbox, but live mesh supports ppc and I don't use linux anymore. The thing is, i just too re-became a flash junkie (havn't been doing it since the 6700 lol) but I notice it doesn NOT work on WINMO 6.5 ROMs.... anyone else have anyluck with a 6.5 ROM???
