How do you get rid of scratches? New screen?

I scratched my screen pretty bad while waiting for my new screen protector

.. How do I replace the screen? Can I just replace the glass or plastic cover? or do I have to replace the whole touchscreen? I searched around online and I cant find any info anywhere.
