I dyed my red sprint diamond cover/stylus black (search this forum) and it solved that "problem". The only real con I see going to a Diamond from a Vogue is battery life (halved, but coming from a 1500mah seidio). I get at least a day depending on the times I have mail pushing so it's not a big deal.
Also, I can vouch for the iGO lag as well. No problems in TomTom7 though.

For the sunlight thing, try Lumos.
It's a customizable and very well working Auto-Adjust backlight for Diamond, it works perfectly with no battery life strain. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450318

Even with brightness maxed out it's hard to see in the sunlight. Lumos/g-light are promising. Better than the stock auto-adjust, especially for low/no light situations where the stock is too bright.
