can't move .cabs????

hey I noticed that I could have about 7-10 more megabytes of space on my internal memory if I could move the cab files from the windows directory to my internal storage.............

my question is why can't I just move these cabs, they are already installed, I don't understand why I can't just move them from /windows to /internal storage...... is there a way to do this I am using total commander

you don't need to do anything other than establishing an activesync connection and taking the cabs and move them to your storage card. If I am understanding you correctly, you just want to move the actual cab from device memory to the storage memory correct?

Re: can't move .cabs????

you can do it with total commander. select the cabs you want then hit menu/move then hit tree view. select the folder you want to move them to and hit okay or "move" or whatever option it gives you

Re: can't move .cabs????

yep just tried again, total comander won't let me move these cabs out of /windows to my internal storage..... any thoughts do I need to change something in them, what could be making them stay in there. They are just the cabs, not files.....and if i added right we could get 11-12mb of more space on our device that is 10% of the devices storage...... let me know if you guys figure this out

why would cab files be saved into the windows directory? they should just be saved into device memory or the internal storage. if they are in device memory, you just need to establish active sync connection, cut and paste them into your internal storage.

I believe there is a way. if you are connected to your pc via active sync, you can open the window folder through your pc. select Tools>Folder Options>View>Hidden Files and Folders>select show hidden files and folders. Maybe then you will be able to move them once this is selected. Not sure though but it's worth a try. Be careful though not to delete anything. If not, there should be another way. worst case scenario, you hard reset and next time put your cabs in device memory instead of the inside the windows folder in device memory. hope this makes sense.

Re: can't move .cabs????

I believe he is talking about .cabs that are part of the ROM. Part of the carrier customizations. It would be a good trick to know as I've been trying to find a way to do that also. Easiest way I know is to cook a ROM, leaving out what you don't want.

yes that is exactly what I want to do.... I want to cabs installed but my point is once they are installed, I don't understand why you can't move the cab files around. You don't need them stored in the device they are already installed, and just having these cabs siting there is a waste of space when you can just move them but they are already installed and I just want to move the cabs from the device to the internal storage this would save us all 11-12 MB of space.......please someone help!!!!
