Re: Radios and Best Locations(21 Cities Listed!!!)
Toronto, Canada - Telus radio!!!!
hands down. the bell network over sucks here, and Telus has always been the first to make major changes to the network, and were the first to support the Diamond at all! I am just another loyal Bell customer, wishing I could get the same deals with Telus! side note, first thing to do with any Bell phone, change the home SID/NID to telus, and keep the Bell towers as lower priority. Faster service, less dropped calls, and much better coverage. |

Re: Radios and Best Locations(21 Cities Listed!!!)
Puerto Rico - Telus 1.04.05V
This island is full of dead zones if you don't have Centennial as your carrier. Thankfully, Sprint roams on Centennial's 3G network in PR if out of range from a Sprint tower. Using this Telus Radio I average 1 - 2 more bars than stock Sprint radio and heat is greatly reduced as a result and I RARELY ever get sent into roaming. I read somwhere in these forums that Telus puts a lot of development into their ROMs as it seems that Canada is also full of fringe areas like Puerto Rico. I haven't really tried the latest Sprint or VZW radios though. Kind of taking the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it attitude" towards flashing my radio.

Re: Radios and Best Locations(21 Cities Listed!!!)
I see a lot of people are posting pretty subjective opinions, and I think everyone knows that performance can rely on a few different variables.
I think what is needed for an analysis like this to be successful is for someone to test their device in the EXACT same position, using the varios radios, and reporting their Rx Power (signal strength) and Rx Ec/Io (signal noise) values (on Sprint these can be found by dialing ##DEBUG#). Lower absolute values for both are better. It would also be best if the test was repeated in varios locatoins around the city, ESPECIALLY in trouble spots. Of course this would take people willing to flash their radios multiple times, which is pretty risky. I know for me, I'm hesitant to do such a test, but I think it might be necessary for me. By the way, I'm currently using the Telus 1.04 radio, in (East) Lansing, MI, after removing the Sprint 1.03 radio (I also have a Touch Pro, but the phones are similar enough that the results should be the same). I haven't done the quantitative analysis that I proposed, but subjectively I've noticed that the Telus radio appears to run cooler, and at first glance seemed to give me about 1 bar better performance (I never looked at the ##DEBUG# values when I was using hte Sprint radio, so the "bar" estimation/approximation is the best I can say for now). I don't know if anything ACTUALLY improved, however, as I still have the same results in missed/dropped calls in certain fringe areas as I did before I changed the radios. |

Re: Radios and Best Locations(17 Cities Listed!!!)
Have you tried the other radios? I am using the stock sprint radio and i don't run hot and always have a solid connection. I'm in midtown Manhattan and parkslope Brooklyn. |
