Can someone talk me through Bluetooth tethering?
Hi,
I'm a semi-newbie with a Sprint Touch Diamond and a SERO plan. (Unlimited data, but no tethering plan) I applied the "Tethering Fix" registry hacks that are featured in the thread on that subject. USB tethering seems to be working perfectly. Yay and thanks.
While I plan to use USB for the most part, I figure it might nice to get Bluetooth working as well, in case I find myself cable-less some day. I was able to "pair" my phone and laptop with no problem. They both "see" each other, and both list each other as a known Bluetooth device. Here's the part I'm confused/worried about:
If I start the Internet Sharing app on the phone, pick "Bluetooth PAN", and then click "Connect", the phone says, "Setup finished. On the PC, connect Bluetooth PAN." I'm not sure I know how to do that!
What I can do is go to my laptop (running XP), bring up the Bluetooth Settings app, right-click on the connection it created for my phone earlier, and choose "Connect". That brings up a dialer thingie. I went ahead and cleared out the User Name and Password, and entered "#777" as the number. If I then click "Dial", it connects at 115 kbps. Awesome. Or is it?
The part that worries me is that as soon as the laptop "dials", the IS app on the phone disconnects. Which makes me worry that my "stealthy" tether hacks are no longer in effect, and that Sprint may decide to rape me with tethering charges.
I'm doing this right? If not, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.
(For extra credit, can Bluetooth support speeds faster than 115 kbps?)
