Word Completion

I just got the Diamond the other day and and having a few problems. I cant get it to complete words as I type either in mail, texting or adding phone numbers and address's. I think I have all the correct radio buttons pushed. Does it only work with certain key setups? Am I missing something? Also, the battery life sucks on this phone. I had it running for about 5 hours today without hardly any use besides a few phone calls and I was down to 30% charge.
