Setting up my phone was fun - mostly. Information for next freshy.
I was really pumped to get this phone and for the last couple of days I've been playing and tinkering and fixing. I think I have a good functioning setup down and this forum was a huge help - THANK YOU!
When I got the phone, I tested the basics out and went right to unlocking it. Right away problems. It took me a while to realize that changing the computer would actually make a difference. Next time, just read and do and skip the thinking. So got the ROMs updated and then started setting up and ran into snags. I took notes while searching and I'm putting them up in hopes they will help someone else. I won't repeat anything I found in this forum, unless it was hard to find. Also, NONE OF THIS STUFF IS MINE. It is other people's hard work and information - thanks to them. To view/edit advanced info including MIP settings, dial ##778#. For MIP click "edit", then choose menu > MIP Default Profile If you have issues with sending email via smtp there is a hotfix: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...playlang=en&tm Want to ActiveSync via bluetooth? http://www.venukb.com/2007/08/07/set...via-bluetooth/ Apparantly ActiveSync can't be done via Wifi from what I read. ActiveSync didn't work initiallly for me but the first work-around in this site did got me going: https://connect.microsoft.com/feedba...634&SiteID=502 An issue I could not find a solution to was if you want to sync your emails via ActiveSync (from PC to phone), then your PC's email should be in a "normal" Outlook PST file, which means IMAP email on your PC will not sync. I understand only POP3 can sync in this way. All my email is IMAP. So I'm syncing my emails directly (Server to phone) via internet and everything else via ActiveSync (with Outlook). I ran into the fact that ActiveSync will only sync your "Contacts" folder in Outlook's contacts. Other contacts folders like my "Work Contacts" would not sync. Well, I found a site where a smart dude explains a much better way to resolve this issue: http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/news...lders-bad.html Voice Commands Guide http://www.winmo-experts.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2 http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...tutorials.mspx Thats it. If I find more I'll add it. |
This post has been thanked 3 times. |
