why oh why CANT I STOP THE DATA CONNECTION?!?!?

at least twice a day, i notice my data connection is open and running for no apparent reason - arrows lit up. this is beyond hotmail/weatherpanel/whatever updating because it STAYS on for (yes i have timed it) at least 30 mins continuously AND even when i try to manually disconnect using the comm mgr, it just hangs in mid air for at least (yes i have timed it) 15 mins. i either have to turn off phone, soft reset, toggle airplane mode (IF i can get to the hanging comm mgr) or i've also found calling in to the phone will do the trick.

what is this??? again, even even with updating info, the connection should only stay alive for few mins right? not to mention that it shouldnt be hanging when trying to disconnect manually.

help!
