Does your's just move backwards? Mine does well back spacing, but doesn't go forward again....unless I'm doing that wrong as well.

It does work to space backwards as you've explained.

Is it supposed to move it forward if you push the right side of the d-pad?

yes, it does on mine at least.
I'm using the diamond by the way.

It's just kind of tricky and you have to find the right spot to push.
