Alerts not poping up

On my diamond alerts have stopped popping up for the alarm and for when I connect to my pc (the screen that asks is you want to sync or use the phone as a drive)

And by alert I am referring to the white box that normal comes up at the bottom of the screen. Any way to fix this problem other than a hard reset?

check under sounds and notifications in your settings, check to see if the box saying display msg is checked or not. thats a start

Its checked

I guess a hard reset is impending.
