Picturemail / MMS app and other media

OK, I'm no MMS maven... I've never bothered much with the camera, and sprint's mms implementation has always been so clunky, I've just avoided it.

But I just installed the picturemail app on my diamond... and it just works. send works/receive works (comes right into the picturemail inbox)... pretty flawless. I like it.

I thought the idea with MMS is that you could send all sorts of media. I wanted to send an mp3 ringtone to a friend last night, but couldn't see any way to do so. Wouldn't allow me to select it through the picmail interface... and when I tried through the file explorer, it informed me that 'sprint picturemail does not support this media type'.

So, there's not going to be an obvious solution to this. My question is where the problem lies. On the older phones that had the Arcsoft MMS client hacked on to them, could non-picture media be sent? Or is it a limitation of Sprint's servers?
