is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

like for instance I would like to use the normal NFL.com page not the wap, or Cnet.com for that matter

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

You have to update the user agent settings in Opera. In PIE you are screwed...

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

I am having the same problem. What agent settings are you talking about?

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

open opera, type opera:config in the address. Go to User Preferences and then scroll down to near the middle and under User Agent, it should say something like this:

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) Sprint MP6950SP

Change it to this:

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 6.0; en)

Then all web pages should open up to the full page and not the WAP or mobile versions.

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

Under User Agent all there is is spoof user agent ID with a choice of either 1-5. Under User Prefs there is custom user agent with:
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) Sprint MP6950SP
I changed it to what you suggested and it still goes to WAP pages.

Did you make sure to scroll down and ckick Save? Did you completely close Opera and try again? Did you try a soft reset?

oakie45 10-20-2008 09:19 PM

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

Yes to all of those and a hard reset. Still to no avail. How do I reset to factory settings. I think I might have done something to the settings before I changed this and would like to try again from default settings.

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

In opera:config I thing there is a "revert to defaults" option...

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

After resetting to default and changing the user agent again it still does not work. I really need this to work so any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know, but there isn't any sense in bumping the thread so often. Sometimes people are looking for the answer for you and it takes time. Just relax, someone will be able to help.

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

Worked for me. Didn't have to soft restart. Just had to restart Opera.

Make sure you scroll ALL THE WAY down after changing the value and click on "Save"

Also after you restart Opera, go back to User Preferences and double check that the change was saved.

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

+ 1 for making sure to click save

also you need to at the very least shut opera down and kill it with the task manager for the settings to take affect. so if you dont have the task manager do the change click save (its a painful amount of scrolling I know) and then close opera and restart your phone.

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

Make sure you have "show all" checked too.

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

Ok well atleast I got it to work for some sites. I was wondering what do you all have the user agent spoof agent id set to. I've tried them all and it still doesn't make a difference for me. Aol.com, nfl.com, eson.com all still come up wap. Thanks again

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

This method seems to work fine, however Custom User Agent seemd to revert back to the normal after I soft reset.

Is this normal?

lol at trying to hard reset to change a setting. I actually sounds like all you did was reset though, which does not revert to factory settings.

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

Although I appreciate the help from everyone you both seemed to have missed the purpose of the post. I had already changed some settings and wanted the device back to default so I could try this fix again. I did not want to hard reset after changing the user agent.

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

I'm having the same problem. I've changed the config line and done a soft reset. Then I deleted the history, cache and cookies. Still, I'm sent to the mobile websites. What else can I do?

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

ahh I kinda wish I didn't mess with this now, as now half come up as wap and half come up normal, and now I can't get it back to straight up wap

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

anyone ideas to change it just for one page like cbssportsline.com

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

i am having the same problem. After applying the changes as told it would still show the nytimes in WAP mode. Same thing with the nfl site.
Say i enter in a site in mobile mode. is there a way to make it non-moble. Some site like PPCgeeks and google have that option on the web page itself. But is there an option like that in opera?

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

ok scratch that...some sites still show up as mobile sites but still better than before

violent31601 11-06-2008 02:32 PM

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

I notice most sites now ask you if you want the mobile site or the regular site

cornelious2 11-06-2008 03:12 PM

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

even if they dont ask you can usually tack on nomobile=yes after the .com/

Anything on this? I think what may be happening is the original line that was posted is not the exact way it is put in. I evewn navigated to this site and cut and paste the same exact line and still nothing. I think the poeple that only deleted what was needed and left the rest were successful and the people that deleted the entire line and then re-typed it from the line mentioned in this thread are having the issues. Can someone post the line needed the exact same way is is labeled in the config. Make sure you have the correct spaces and cap letters and all. FYI.. The reset button is messed up. All it does is erase whatever is typed in.

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

after you change the settings, you must scroll down to the bottom of that section (quite a ways down) and click the "save" button. If you look at the page as you are scrolling down all of the settings options, each section has a "save" or "reset" button at the end of each section

Re: is there a way to NOT default to wap pages?

my apologies for being off subject but no one answered my thread posted yesterday and since this is an opera thread, I figured what the heck...

Has anyone else tried to use another web browser and by doing so it took over the default browser status of your phone? I downloaded the new beta of Iris Browser but somehow it became my default browser. I unchecked this and deleted since it wasn't that good but now everytime I open up a web address from an email or in general, IE is my default instead of Opera. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas on how I get Opera to be the default browser again. Thanks

I got the fix to work but I couldn't see tops and corners of pages, so I switched back to the default Opera View.

This does not work for me. I am on a HTC Touch Pro. It still goes to WAP and Mobile version of sites.
