HTC Diamond seems to be defective.

I posted this thread over at xda, with no results, and i need help.

I just got the sprint version of the HTC DIAMOND Sunday, and this is my first WM device. Warranty is still good as well.

(rom version 1.09.651.5 rom date 8/04/08

My problems:

1)
When trying to take photos or videos, the zoom constantly moves in and out regardless of me not pressing a thing (For example, when i open the camera, the zoom constantly moves from 1.0-2.0x all on its on). I don't know if it suppose to do this or not, but i don't think so. The same thing goes for viewing pics and Opera as well, it zooms back and forth without me touching a thing.

2)
Sometimes it seems as if the "end" button or buttons on the right of the center button, doesn't respond well. I try to hold it down to lock my phone, but it takes several tries in order to this. Maybe its just me

3)
I've read that the center button suppose to act like a scrolling mechanism, but i don't think mine does. Has this feature been disabled or something?

Its a nice phone, but i think mine has a couple of bugs. The zoom problem really annoys me, because i cant take pictures with the camera zooming in and out constantly.

(EDIT:when i say it zooms without me touching it, i mean that literally. For example, right now im looking at a pic in my phone. The phone is literally just laying on its back while I'm typing this message. Its constantly zooming in and out of the pic in real rapid movements. Could it be the screen protector that came with the phone? (But then again, it only happens when I load the camera/camcorder,search the web, view text messages, or view pics) I have it on, but i didn't think that would be the cause.....

If its still under warranty, bring it back and get a new one. The whole zooming thing seems kind of weird

Re: HTC Diamond seems to be defective.

sounds like water damage!

But really, the centre button scrolling has to be enabled by reg edit or custom ROM.

Re: HTC Diamond seems to be defective.

Try a hard reset first. If that doesnt fix it, send it back.

I don't mean to talk bad about the Touch Pro, but the Diamond and the Pro both basically use the same hardware, and you are assuming that the Pro isn't going to have similar issues with the dpad.

Re: HTC Diamond seems to be defective.

I'll try a hard reset, and see if that helps. If not, i guess I'll take it back and get a different phone. Its a nice phone, but it seems like when I'm reading message boards mostly all I see is problems. IDK, maybe its just me.

oh and by the way, there is no water damage. I just opened it up and took a peek at the two different makers, and they were both fine. It also seemed kind of suspicious when i got the phone because initially i picked out the HTC Touch, but she came back with the diamond saying this was the last one and asked if i wanted it. Another worker in the store was surprised by seeing it and said "we have those" and she replied "yeah, this was the last one" IDK, it just seemed kind of weird seeing as though the diamond wasnt even on the shelf yet in the store. What makes it worse is that she also had a tag on her shirt that said "Training". lol.

Generally thats why people come to message boards.. because of problems or to find upgrades and tricks, but mostly resolve issues. Look at the iPhone boards.. Apple would have you believe its a perfect device, but they have just as many issues as the next device. Its what happens in mass production.

The Diamond is a new, expensive phone. Most stores ive seen will order it for you but dont stock many, so thats faily common. Plus they dont like to advertise their WM phones too much for some odd reason..

Re: HTC Diamond seems to be defective.

Update: Did a hard reset, nothing changed. I guess I'm going to chalk it up as a defective phone. I will be taking it back and maybe getting an instinct or something else. The windows mobile OS just seemed a little too advanced for me. Just not for me, though i do like how you can customize different things. IDK maybe i'll get a replacement diamond. Im just not sure. How does the Samsung Instinct stack up to the Diamond or even the HTC Touch? I'm just a little stuck on which one is right for me.

Re: HTC Diamond seems to be defective.

If the Diamond and winMo is too advanced for you, then you'll prolly like the instinct, but most folks here will tell you it's a POS.
