Because our market only has 1X unfortunately. So when I'm downloading large e-mails, files, etc, I switch over to wi-fi. It's handy

Very bad Signal at my house. Its nice to kick on wifi when im to lazy to get up and turn on the pc

Yeah, it is sad that we are on 1X here as well. Hell, even Alltel has EVDO here. Sprint will probably give us EVDO when the rest of the world is using wimax or something.

IS there a way to keep both WiFi and EVDO active and have the device intelligently use the one with a better signal/download speed?

I'm in the ag business and often travel to areas where I am on roam and there is no data service available (aka The Sticks). The wi-fi is a handy back-up if my hotel or a local cafe has wi-fi available.
