If you have Outlook on your 'puter, you can text directly from it.
In the message window in Outlook 2007, go to the menu File/New.../Text Message. Then enter the name of who you're texting. If they're in your Contacts, Outlook will enter their mobile number automatically. You'll also get a nifty window to type in that shows what your text message will look like on a phone - and if you go over the 160 char. limit, you'll get two little screens showing your text message. |

You can also text from your cell phone to a landline. I have Sprint so I dunno if it's exclusive or not. The person on the recieving end will be prompted to press one to hear the text and then an automated voice will read your text to them. The recieving person will also be able to reply and you will recieve their reply via a text to your phone.
