Force Roam - Found!

If you're unfortunate like me and do not have but sprint 1x service, just enable roaming and you'll be up to speed. From what I deduce, this roams voice too. I needed both and it works.

This isn't anywhere on the web, so you're seeing it from me first. It's about as simple as it comes too...

Edit the registry as follows
Under HKLM\Software\OEM\InitProv\PhoneSetting
Change ItemCount from 2 to 3
Save
Soft Reset

On reboot, start > settings > phone > services > roaming > select the new option that is revealed "Automatic-B"

This is the cloaked "Roam Only" feature that is causing issues. Do not rename anything, it is not needed and may cause issues.
This may work on other PPC sprint phones too, so don't be afraid to try it.

ENJOY!

hmmm, from the one post wounder.

looks like if it works.... you may have found some friends. i dont need it, but i do know many have missed this options on recent ROMs and devices.

There's no ItemCount key at that location.

Re: Force Roam - Found!

be aware that if the majority of the minutes are used "roaming" for the billing period, you will be charged romaing fees.

Testing this on the Mogul:

The actual key location he meant to write is:

Under HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\LocationSetting

Under that is the key for ItemCount, just trying the fix now, first made sure the registry change kept after restart.

No Automatic -B setting appears after this change.

On the mogul as far as I can tell this doesn't work.

Re: Force Roam - Found!

hes right!! it doesnt apparently work on the mogul!!!

Re: Force Roam - Found!

Additional options can be found checking Verizon phone registry.

There are also posts in Titan and Apache forums on how to enable other phone options. One being "Mode of Operation".

BTW Automatic-B forces the phone to use the B side instaed of the A side of the PRL.

-CC

NOTE: The correct location of OP, should be in HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSettings\NetworkService And the values/key are not present on the Diamond.

Updated, left a DIR out of the reg edit area. Damn late night posts!

On the mogul, you have to follow the previously discussed method where you add 2 entries and change one.

This should work on the *NEWER* phones, which the mogul isn't.

ENJOY!

say good bye to your data connectivity and battery. we monkeyed with these settings in a previous juicy rom and it was horrible.

so im curious to see what you find.
i had this set and could not get it to stop flipping from "searching for network" to Home signal to "roaming" every 5 sec and it killed my battery in about 2h when i was down by the boarder in a roaming area. and automatic b didnt change anything.

Phone has been configured this way for 13hrs, and I have 60% battery life after a few calls and playing with google maps for a while.

Your issue isn't present on my device.

I have noticed though, when I send a text message, the phone drops back to 1x until the message is sent and the reverts to EV again.

On EV I get 500kps down and 450kps up!

thats the same issue we were having it just randomly drops EV and goes to 1x, signal is erratic. i didnt experience any issues until i moved to a different geographical location and then it started giving me a world of trouble. in my home network area i had no issues.

Yes, it states in the Terms and Conditions that if a majority of the used minutes are roaming minutes, that you would be charged the roaming fee.

Had a customer who sent a phone to Alaska for their daughter (Telesales sold them the phone), by the way Alaska, the state, is considered roaming coverage, and the customer had a four hundered dollar phone bill because they were charged roaming fees

I'm good on the roaming issue, it's only at my house that this is an issue. I'm about to get a free airave so the only thing I have to worry about is the data side, which I can still get taken care of by my new friend :-)

I can roam all I want and not get charged any extra. I've got friends who have done roaming only for years, no problem. Dunno what company you are with but they suck. If it's Sprint like your tag says I dunno what the heck they are doing with you but you are getting screwed.

Sprint did just change the agreement so they can terminate you for using over a certain amount of roaming minutes a month over a 3 month period. But I've never heard of anyone getting charged for roaming minutes lol. Kinda defeats the purpose of NO ROAMING OR LONG DISTANCE CHARGES.

to get automatic B change this value to "4"

but im telling you it has adverse battery affects. at least in my experience as well and a bunch of others.

This is the settings I use on mine. I need the roam option for when I am at work. Battery life is fine.

Under HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting
Change AllowRoaming to 0 (not sure if this is needed or not)
Under HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\NetworkService
Change ItemCount to 3 (instead of 2)
Create a new String called ItemName3 with the value of "Roam Only" (without quotes)
Create a new DWord called ItemValue3 with a value of 3
and
do the reg entries in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\InitProv\PhoneSett ing
change ItemCount to 3
New string: ItemName3 Value- Roaming.
New Dword: ItemValue3 Value- 3

I never said I got charged, a customer of mine came in with their bill in hand to show me they were charged for roaming because every minute used that billing period was a roaming minute. And that was just three months ago. Apparently now they will just terminate the contract, which in my opinion, is a better alternative than being charged a couple hundred dollars or more. And its 800 roaming minutes in a month, a majority of minutes of the month, or a majority of data roaming in a month. Then they will terminate

Jugalo.. will any of these tweaks work with my Airave? When I'm within my Airave area, my diamond seems to still be searching for EV coverage, so it will have 0-2 bars.. and if i make a call or send a text i have 7 bars on 1X coverage.. is there a way for the diamond to lock onto 1X when i'm using the Airave?

I did the edits but all it does is look for service. I did them to the "T" just as explained and it still doesnt work. Even went to the top of a 26 story building in Daytona Beach and it still just searches for service.

I really don't suggest doing this. Having your phone "roam" all the time will destroy you battery life and likely get you kicked off your service provider.

ATT, Verizon, and Tmobile do the same thing pal. Its on their website's in very small print. Here's the one off ATT website:

"ATT reserves the right to terminate your service if less than 50% of your usage over three consecutive billing cycles is on ATT-owned systems"

No it won't. It will only destroy battery is signal is weak -- whether roaming or on home network. Roaming can drastically improve battery life, if signal on your home network is weak and roaming is better.

To each his own. Having my phone on roam only killed mine, and others batteries (according to Juggalo, and others).

Besides, after 3 months of doing this, your gonna be looking for another provider anyways if your on Sprint,ATT,Verizon, or Tmobile.

Oh, and thanks for the ROM!

I use the roam only option selectively. At one place I work the Sprint signal is super sucky, and drains my battery quick. If I roam there, it doubles my battery life.

It is true that using the roam only option exclusively will terminate your service within 3 months.

Basically, if you have low signal, the diamond will boost power to try to get better signal, and cost battery whether roaming or not.
