Yea, its true. Thats why your battery dies quickly in low signal areas. |

Re: Force Roam - Found!
Take a look at ##DEBUG#. For newbs, go to the dial pad and enter the string.
The "receive" portion of the radio is passive in that, it cannot "boost power" to "grab" better signal. The "transmit" portion of the radio has the ability to transmit up to 600mW (per FCC requirements). When signal quality is good, the phone does not need to TRASMIT at higher power levels and therefore does not drain battery as quickly. When signal quality is poor, the phone may need to poll the cell site more often in order to establish connection and/or switch between 1xRTT and EVDO. When EVDO signal is not good (DO is serviced by a seperate cellular element within the cell site), the phone switches to 1x. The act of repeated connection and switching between DO and 1x will consume battery. When the Rx s/n is low, it causes the phone to transmit (Tx) at higher power in order to reliably reach the cell site. Again, the phone cannot simply "boost power" to go out a get better signal. On the subject of roaming--since Sprint can only roam at 1x on Verizon, having the phone on forced roam will cause the phone to be locked at 1x. If your phone is constantly switching betwen 1x and DO while on Sprint (therefore causing the phone to turn on all the time), having it locked on Verizon 1x WILL save battery. On the other hand, if you have good DO coverage and the phone does not switch betwen the 1x and DO, then the point is moot. |
Re: Force Roam - Found!
Thanks to the OP for the registry change to add the option of roaming! Works like a charm on my Sprint Diamond. I have a weak Sprint signal at home.
I assume that pointy triangle icon in the taskbar means I'm roaming? Any way to find out what network I'm roaming on? Cheers, Jeff |

Re: Force Roam - Found!
I have had the same issue when you can't get a good sprint signal, that the battery drains really fast. Though this is past experience with other phones and I think this applies to the diamond as well.
The two options you have are: 1. implement the reg edit for roaming, knowing what that will do to your contract 2.Turn off the phone |
Re: Force Roam - Found!
I also want to add I renamed the settings under 'network service' to (using juicy 4.4):
home=Sprint *=Automatic automatic b=Roaming Only It works just fine with no errors nor problems. Regedit works as advertised. |
Re: Force Roam - Found!
Now I'll admit that I did not read this entire thread, but what I did read it seems that everyone keeps talking about a Reg edit..I simply installed a cab I found and force roam works perfect. Did I miss something?

Re: Force Roam - Found!
Hmm...I have a HTC Touch Pro, not a diamond, but would that matter? Every time I change it to force roaming, it can never find a signal for me...

The cab you installed does the reg edit for you. Quote:

Re: Force Roam - Found!
I have the Sprint HTC Touch Pro and have successfully modified the registry keys and I can roam and talk on the phone fine but I'm also getting multiple text messages of the same message throughout the day and sometimes I never receive text messages sent to me. Is this happening to anyone else or is there a way I can correct this? The text message thing only happens when I am in the "Automatic-B" mode.

Re: Force Roam - Found!
Tonight I was at a meeting and noticed my phone was warm and not getting a good signal. No background programs running. nuePower showing 161mA, but my battery had dropped about 40% over 45 minutes. Using Touch Pro on Sprint. No roaming icon shown. Turning my phone off was not an option because kids with sitter and sitter had my cell number. In Settings>Phone>Services>Roaming the only options are for:
0 Sprint 0 Automatic And Automatic was checked. If I do the registry edits noted, will I see additional options on this page: 0 Sprint 0 Automatic 0 Roam ??? In this setting I would not mind having the option of changing back and forth between "Automatic" and "Roam" since Verizon uniformly has a stronger signal throughout the city. I am thinking that If I could get a stronger roaming signal my battery would be preserved longer. I don't want to have to keep changing the registry everytime I want to change between Sprint and Roaming. I don't mind making changes in Settings. It would be nice if there were a program to automatically switch to roaming when the Sprint signal is low. I know that that is what the "automatic" setting is supposed to do, but it does not do it efficiently....and most often I don't even get the roaming icon even though I am in an area where I know the Verizon signal is strong (I used to be a Verizon customer, but switched to Sprint when Verizon gimped their Touch Pro). |
Re: Force Roam - Found!
Hi, I'm new to the site & need to know where one goes to change the setting info for roaming?? I saw some of the posts here but doesnt tell you how to get to that point. I have the first model m800 instinct with Sprint. I have no bars or just one on occasion but every once in a while I'll roam with 100% full service. How can I go about forcing it to roam or even get it to roam if there is no bars?? Any & all info would be great, Thanks. Joe.....

I used this cab for my girls diamond and it worked fine. I did not make it. DCP did. I am posting for others to use. I don't know about any other devices besides the sprint diamond and sprint touch ( Vogue ) that it works on but here you go.

Does this work with WM6.5?

Re: Force Roam - Found!
Hello! I am also new here. I have been looking for a "force roam" for my Samsung
Moment for weeks. I do not have reliable Sprint coverage at home. I usually have 1 bar which I lose when I try to make a call and the signal is unusable for a data connection. With my old phone I had a roaming only option which I used while at home and switched back to Automatic anytime I wasn't at home. Does anyone know if this will work on my Moment? And if so, how do I set it up? Thanks for any help or advice. |
