Re: Force Roam - Found!

Jugalo.. will any of these tweaks work with my Airave? When I'm within my Airave area, my diamond seems to still be searching for EV coverage, so it will have 0-2 bars.. and if i make a call or send a text i have 7 bars on 1X coverage.. is there a way for the diamond to lock onto 1X when i'm using the Airave?

This is exactly the same as the trick for HTC Touch.

Under HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting
Change AllowRoaming to 0 (not sure if this is needed or not)
Under HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\NetworkService
Change ItemCount to 3 (instead of 2)
Create a new String called ItemName3 with the value of "Roam Only" (without quotes)
Create a new DWord called ItemValue3 with a value of 3
and
do the reg entries in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\InitProv\PhoneSett ing
change ItemCount to 3
New string: ItemName3 Value- Roaming.
New Dword: ItemValue3 Value- 3

I did the edits but all it does is look for service. I did them to the "T" just as explained and it still doesnt work. Even went to the top of a 26 story building in Daytona Beach and it still just searches for service.

I really don't suggest doing this. Having your phone "roam" all the time will destroy you battery life and likely get you kicked off your service provider.

Sprint did just change the agreement so they can terminate you for using over a certain amount of roaming minutes a month over a 3 month period. But I've never heard of anyone getting charged for roaming minutes lol. Kinda defeats the purpose of NO ROAMING OR LONG DISTANCE CHARGES.

ATT, Verizon, and Tmobile do the same thing pal. Its on their website's in very small print. Here's the one off ATT website:

"ATT reserves the right to terminate your service if less than 50% of your usage over three consecutive billing cycles is on ATT-owned systems"

No it won't. It will only destroy battery is signal is weak -- whether roaming or on home network. Roaming can drastically improve battery life, if signal on your home network is weak and roaming is better.

To each his own. Having my phone on roam only killed mine, and others batteries (according to Juggalo, and others).

Besides, after 3 months of doing this, your gonna be looking for another provider anyways if your on Sprint,ATT,Verizon, or Tmobile.

Oh, and thanks for the ROM!

I use the roam only option selectively. At one place I work the Sprint signal is super sucky, and drains my battery quick. If I roam there, it doubles my battery life.

It is true that using the roam only option exclusively will terminate your service within 3 months.

Basically, if you have low signal, the diamond will boost power to try to get better signal, and cost battery whether roaming or not.
