This isn't anywhere on the web, so you're seeing it from me first. It's about as simple as it comes too...

Edit the registry as follows
Under HKLM\Software\OEM\InitProv\PhoneSetting
Change ItemCount from 2 to 3
Save
Soft Reset

On reboot, start > settings > phone > services > roaming > select the new option that is revealed "Automatic-B"

This is the cloaked "Roam Only" feature that is causing issues. Do not rename anything, it is not needed and may cause issues.
This may work on other PPC sprint phones too, so don't be afraid to try it.

ENJOY!

say good bye to your data connectivity and battery. we monkeyed with these settings in a previous juicy rom and it was horrible.

so im curious to see what you find.
i had this set and could not get it to stop flipping from "searching for network" to Home signal to "roaming" every 5 sec and it killed my battery in about 2h when i was down by the boarder in a roaming area. and automatic b didnt change anything.

Re: Force Roam - Found!

Phone has been configured this way for 13hrs, and I have 60% battery life after a few calls and playing with google maps for a while.

Your issue isn't present on my device.

I have noticed though, when I send a text message, the phone drops back to 1x until the message is sent and the reverts to EV again.

On EV I get 500kps down and 450kps up!

thats the same issue we were having it just randomly drops EV and goes to 1x, signal is erratic. i didnt experience any issues until i moved to a different geographical location and then it started giving me a world of trouble. in my home network area i had no issues.

SMS and calls are all done on 1X part of the network.

Yes, it states in the Terms and Conditions that if a majority of the used minutes are roaming minutes, that you would be charged the roaming fee.

Had a customer who sent a phone to Alaska for their daughter (Telesales sold them the phone), by the way Alaska, the state, is considered roaming coverage, and the customer had a four hundered dollar phone bill because they were charged roaming fees

I'm good on the roaming issue, it's only at my house that this is an issue. I'm about to get a free airave so the only thing I have to worry about is the data side, which I can still get taken care of by my new friend :-)

*i most def. don't pay fer roaming.
i'm in ny now and i find my self roaming quite a tad now. =/

I can roam all I want and not get charged any extra. I've got friends who have done roaming only for years, no problem. Dunno what company you are with but they suck. If it's Sprint like your tag says I dunno what the heck they are doing with you but you are getting screwed.

Sprint did just change the agreement so they can terminate you for using over a certain amount of roaming minutes a month over a 3 month period. But I've never heard of anyone getting charged for roaming minutes lol. Kinda defeats the purpose of NO ROAMING OR LONG DISTANCE CHARGES.

Under that is the key for ItemCount, just trying the fix now, first made sure the registry change kept after restart.

No Automatic -B setting appears after this change.

On the mogul as far as I can tell this doesn't work.

to get automatic B change this value to "4"

but im telling you it has adverse battery affects. at least in my experience as well and a bunch of others.
