Re: USB charging problem!

Have you paired it with activesync yet. Many phones won't charge unless you have an activesync profile.

Also if it's set to a USB Drive it may not charge.

Re: USB charging problem!

I have this same problem too and it's driving me nuts. Before w/ my motorola Q I NEVER had this issue. I could charge and tether w/ PDAnet so it's not the cable or the program.

does anyone know of any alternatives? does the internet sharing mode = Tethering or PAM?

Yes if you have one of the custom rom's internet sharing is included as well as i use WMWIFIROUTER which is great....Unless your using AC charger, charging by usb is not going to charge as fast and may not keep up with your current activities.

thats hilarious b/c that is the exact situation with me. I use my wifes Q while I use PDAnet atm.

I really would like to know how to turn off the screen while its charging but not turning off the phone, b/c when its in standby it naturally disconnects from PDAnet.

Re: USB charging problem!

I have been battling this issue with this phone and PDANet too. I tried the custom ROM as mentioned earlier but it wont let me tether through the USB, only bluetooth which is as slow as molasses. Will using a double USB cable with PDANet work okay? I would hate to take up 3 of the 2 USB ports on my laptop but if I have to I guess I will. Maybe a better solution would be WMWIFIrouter with an AC adapter.

WMWifirouter on AC still drains the battery...at least for me

I believe I have a related issue. I try to stream radio with my diamond while plugged into the wall, and the battery loses power. I believe this is what is happening with the tethering too. Basically the the battery discharge causes the phone to heat up too much so that it stops charging to avoid overheating. I am willing to bet that if you start tethering after the phone is fully charged, that it will be able to maintain the full charge (much like what I have discovered when I am streaming).

Basically I think when the battery is not fully charged, and the phone is plugged in, the battery powers the phone while the power adapter attempts to charge the battery. However, the battery gets too hot, and the power adapter stops charging the battery. I believe that the power adapter should be powering the phone first, and then charging the battery with whatever power is remaining, and we wouldn't have this problem. When you charge your phone (without using data or talking), the phone doesn't really get that hot. It only gets hot when you are using data or talking on the phone where battery discharges. I wouldn't be surprised if the phone also loses power while plugged in and talking on the phone for a long time.

Whenever the phone is fully charged, it will maintain the charge and not lose power because the phone is now being primarily operated by the power from the adapater and not the battery. You will also notice that the phone does not get very hot either.

I would think that there would be a sofware fix that would set the power priority to tell the phone to be powered by the adapter first and then charge the battery with remaining power. I am not a developer, but I hope this eventually gets some attention from HTC or maybe one of the greate developers on this forum.

Here is the link to the other thread that talks about battery problems when charging and streaming at the same time: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...charging+issue

Re: USB charging problem!

A standard USB has a max rating of 500mA, so if your phone is using more than that, it will slowly discharge.

One solution although bulky, is to use a powered USB hub inline. They usually use 2A rated adapters.

The other solution is buying a USB cable that has 2 male usb connectors on it. One carries the data + power and the 2nd adds more power giving you (500mA+500mA)

In your programs folder, you will see a program called "Display Switch", Click on that and the screen will shut off, but PDAnet will keep on running.
