What are the differences between this cab and the one at the beginning of this thread?

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

Thanks Darkness231.
But now I have a newbie question for anyone who can help.
I used to tether with my 6700 using a program for that.
I installed the Darkness231 cab onto my TP.
I connected by laptop.
Opened the Internet sharing and hit connect on my TP
Opened my Firefox browser and... nothing. No connection. Am I missing a step here?
My TP shows a message that says "Check USB cable connection".

Edit: OK it did not work on my laptop, but when I reconnected it to my PC (which has activesync installed) it wanted to work as I got a message about 2 networks. SO, do I need to have activesync installed on my laptop for this to tether to that laptop?

Yes. If your using windows XP you need activesync (for the drivers)
If your using Windows Vista, then you need WMDC (same reason)

and it will show as network adaptor, not a modem, in device manager...

Ok I am completey new so I need major help. I downloaded the zipfile to my phone in post 1. From there I don't know what to do or how to make it work on my TP. Can someone point me to a site with step by step instructions for dummies! Also and the registry edits... are those necessary or are they included in the download?

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

Yeah it would great if someone could clean up this thread and post a clean way of installing the CAB from Post #1 (or wherever) and then instructions on what to do. Would help prevent newbies from having to read through 9 pages and figure out what to do.

Anyone willing to do this for Good Karma?

This is not working for me. I have Windows Vista 64. It installed the "Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device," it connects over USB and shows that I have a "Local" connection, but it doesn't seem to be assigning a real IP address.

Extension=""
ForceCellConnection="Sprint"
MaxCMConnectRetries="0"

can you tether using Wifi? using your phone as a router (TP)? i did this on my 6800 mogul w/ wmwifi router. i've tried it on my TP with some issues...

cool8man 11-07-2008 06:52 PM

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

I tried WMWifiRouter .91 and it did not work. I'm getting the "Local only" connection and not getting a real IP address.

I am able to connect using PDAnet.

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

If I install the second cab file without the backlight & suspend settings will it reverse the changes from the first cab? or do I need to just hard reset and start over?

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

Hey, if i go into remove programs and remove this cab, will it undo the changes made to the registry? Or do you actually have to hard reset to fix the changes?
Also, what do the backlight changes do exactly?
Thanks

What exactly does this CAB give your phone the ability to do? I have a Sprint Touch Pro & I am looking for a way to tether. (just plug & play) Will this give my TP the ability to do that? If it won't can any one give me a good free or cheap CAB that will help me out.

Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me whether or not I will have to do a hard reset if I want to remove this cab from my phone. And since you have the same phone as me can you tell me if you are satisfied with the way it functions on the TP. Does it make the phone do anything out of the ordinary?

I haven't installed it yet because I was wondering the same (about removing)... a few posts ago, i asked if removing the cab from "remove programs" would be possible or if i'd have to hard reset to undo the changes to the registry. I was wondering this because there are two cabs. One that also makes changes to backlight settings to keep the device from sleeping and the other which only has the main tethering changes. I'd imagine the one with backlight settings would be more useful, but who knows... that's why it would be helpful to know if the cab can be removed - don't want to pick the wrong one and have to hard reset.
Hopefully someone answers... Also want to know what the backlight changes actually do... if they're necessary?

OK...Now that I have figured out what I needed to do after playing around with my TP, I need to send out a million thanks to Schwartz for posting this cab. For some reason, even when the screen turns off, the connection was still working. I don't know how thats even possible but it is really cool.

so u installed the one on the front page right?

Can anybody please tell me the difference between the cab with backlight settings and the cab without? I want to know what the big deal is between the two.. basically what role does the backlight serve in tethering. thank you.

Did you do a soft reset. If you did then you can go to setting>connections>USB to PC. You will get the option to change to ActiveSync or Disk Drive as well as an option to "ask every time" Hope this helps.

Yeah, I installed the one on the front page. It made my screen bright and keeps it on automatically. I turned the screen off & for some reason, do to the fact that the USB was still connected & my activesync was turned off. My data connection stayed active. Which made the tethering still work. I went to a bunch of websites & forgot I was even using my cell phone as a connection. I dont know what made it possible but I am happy its working that way. If you ever intall it please let me know if yours worked the same. ~Technology is SEXY!!!

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

I have read the entire thread... it seems to be that people with VISTA 64 bit are having trouble conx. LIKE ME.

I have a HP LAPTOP VISTA 64 bit sysyem and a HTC TP with installed cab's from this thread. I can conntect via bluetooth to sync via active sync and wmdc. Not sure why they both go on but they both read and enterain a bluetooth connx etc.

I have the HTC TP installed on the bluetooth partnertships but under COntrol panels> Bluethooth Devices > Dial up is Blank... makes me think the HTC PRO does not offer that service to my cpu.

After i make a BT conx i got to 'connect to a network. Right click on Dial up connection Bluetooth and it est bt conx then goes to the dial page where #777 is filled out then FAILS.

Any help ideas? I BAILED OUT AND WENT TO JUNEFABRICS AND DL THEIR PDANET 2.0 FOR 64 BIT CPU;S IT SOUNDS LIKE NO ONE HERE IS USING A 64 BIT CPU AND THE CABS HERE ARE NOT MADE FOR VISTA WITH 64 BIT. tHANK YOU THOUGH THE OTHER CABS ARE AWESOME!!

Thanks

I think I have the same problem with my Gateway laptop with 64-bit Vista on it. I can connect with BT just fine but with the USB connection nothing happens except that there is a NDIS connection that is created but it gives me no internet connection.

I used to use PDAnet but that program sucked the living juice out of my phone like there was no tomorrow. My phone couldnt even charge fast enough to keep up.

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

That's terrible about the battery. Wonder if we can adjust something to fix that.

Maybe a new Cab will come out on here for 64 users.

have u installed the registry edits or cab on the first page or just running internet sharing straight out of the box?

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

I did the registry edit but did not install the cab file. This is really annoying, I hope someone can tell me why my connection keeps disconnecting. I know other's are having the same problem. Do you know if the backlight reg edits are what prevents the phone from going to sleep and terminating the connection? I don't think that is related because If I power off using the power button it still stays connected for a couple of minutes. Reallly need some help here guys! Or at least some ideas to try.

Well, I just tried to tether on 32-Bit Vista and it does the same thing! WTH?! I really need this. Is something wrong with my Mobile Device Center software? What are the setting supposed to be? Am I supposed to create a dial-up connection with #777 like the regular phones?

I did the registry edits when the day I received my Diamond weeks ago, and tethering still works on both my XP laptop and my Vista 32 desktop. Like other folks mentioned earlier, once you initiate Internet Sharing on the Diamond, and connect via USB to the laptop/desktop, Vista/XP mounts the Diamond like another network adapter....nothing else on the laptop/desktop is needed.

I'm tethered to my Vista 32 desktop as I enter this post.

Well I dont know what I did wrong but I am just going to break down and get a wireless card since this phone doesnt want to let me tether with USB. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had tethering a phone. I thought it would be easier this time around considering that it has Windows Mobile on it.

Did anyone get charged for tethering by Sprint using the cab from post #1?

Edit: I couldn't wait for the answer anymore but to install the cab and use it on my win xp dell laptop. After a soft reset and connect to my laptop, it works instantly without any issue. I guess I will find out myself if Sprint is going to bill me or not. Thank you.

Mr.Monkee, Please tell the forum which phone, carrier, cab you used, operating system and method you used to connect to the internet with what software etc.. You must be missing a step as I have used both cabs with and without backlight tweak on a Sprint Diamond and on a Sprint Pro with no issues. =D> So I know we can help you figure out how to tether.:headbang:

Hi,i am pretty sure that lots off people will help You step by step instruction if You let them know whats going on exactly...Another option -get Pdanet from June fabrics.com.
Both ways are cheaper than pay 40-50$ for card evry month...

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

Hi, can somebody tell me how to use this cab? I am using juicy 3.7.1 on my sprint diamond phone. When I start internet sharing, the window showed status as disconnected, and I could choose "USB" or "Bluetooth PAN". But I couldn't click the connect button, as it was in freeze status.

I tried soft reset the system. It also did not allow me to remove the program. Before I could use internet sharing through phone as modem.

Thanks!
