Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

I'm a little confused about tethering. I've been using PDANet for about 6 months but use it only occasionally and never for heavy downloading. Only email and occassionaly viewing news website, UPS Tracking and checking hotmail and gmail accounts. I have Simply Everything and i've never been charged anything extra and I don't have the tethering plan. Does Sprint know what I'm doing and just haven't said anything or what?

Sorry for the Newb question, but how do I tether with the diamond? I'm upgrading from a PPC6700, and I remember when I set up my PPC connection (years ago) I simply had to run the program sprint gave us on the phone, and the CD that came with the phone had a PPC6700SP dialer program. Its worked great for years.

Now with the diamond, I tried (after installing this cab) turning on "internet sharing" and it says "check USB cable" on the phone, and my PC doesn't recognize the phone as a modem? I tried running the PPC6700 dialer and I get "remote error". I tried adding a dialup connection in control panel and again it doesn't show my diamond as a modem.

Sorry for my ignorance, but can anybody tell me how to set this up?

I also upgraded from a PPC 6700 and did exactly as "shcwartz" described on the Diamond. I then plugged the Dimaond into my PC/Laptop via USB. No extra steps or programs are required on the PC/Laptop. Just what "Schwartz" describes and the following registry changes:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Extension=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
ForceCellConnection="Sprint PCS"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
MaxCMCon=0

Using my reg editor under
HKLM/COMM/INTERNETSHARING/ THE EXTENSION= "isext.dll". You're saying to delete this dll? then under settings change forcecellconnect to "sprint" right?

yeah exactly... or you can delete the force connect key as well, then you can choose which connection to use...

After reading the complete thread, I am a little confused. Is the consensus , that we first apply the zip from post 3 then do the reg edit.

"Just what "Schwartz" describes and the following registry changes:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]

set extension=""
force connect ="sprint"

or just run the cab file included in this thread

Its pointless to do both, you should do one or the other...
If you install the cab file, it will edit the registry for you... or you can do it yourself :D

Do you have to have activesync installed to use this method?
When I connect my usb, it says New Hardware found and it's called Generic RNDIS. I look for the driver in Windows as described in other posts and it's not there.

I'd rather not load Activesync if I can help it, since I don't sync on the laptop anyway.

Thanks!

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

I'm assuming you'll need ActiveSync installed in order for your registry editor to connect to the phone. I'm using CERegEditor and it requires ActiveSync.

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

if you use total commander on your phone it has a built in reg editer so you can do it without a pc around.... though if your trying to teather I would assume you have one around haha.

you need to install activesync (WMDC for vista) for the drivers

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

Once connected, what are you supposed to do on the PC side besides having WMDC installed? I messed around with WMWifi Router and PDANet previously and I think it messed something up. I just applied the file from post #1 and I still cant connect. The only thing that happends is WMDC on the PC switches to "not connected" then a local area connection created under network connections and underneath it says "remote NDIS based internet sharing device is created". I hope someone can help me fix this without having to do a factory reset.

Btw, this is my first Windows Mobile Phone and first post.:headbang:

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

i just installed activesync and when u first sync it check the box that allows outside wireless connection. then i activate the tethering program before i connect it via usb. then when it connects i then physically connect the usb and it just recognizes it and it works. i do believe you have to have activesync open because it has drivers for ur phone :)

MrMonkee 10-23-2008 02:57 AM

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

I kind of tried your method Anthrax and it still doesn't work. I dont have the setting to allow outside an outside wireless connection. I think really messed something up on the phone's side.

MrMonkee 10-23-2008 03:32 AM

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

Well I just switched back to using PDANet, it just sucks because my laptop uses the 64bit Vista and my CarPC uses 32bit Vista. I dont think that you could use two different versions of PDANet on the phone, or can you?

i'm having this issue myself.. running juicy2.5... guess i'll try a hard reset tonight and see if it fixes the issues.

every time i connect my diamond i get an activesync connection, however when i hit connect in Internet Sharing, the activesync connection is dropped and the phone is no longer connected until i press disconnect. this is the same weather i connect to the internet on the phone before or after plugging it in to the computer.

I'm waiting on the answer to this as well. I have two on hold at Best Buy that I plan to pick up today. Does the cab file at the beginning of this thread work on the Pro?

As far as I can tell, this works on the TP. Is there anything that would indicate whether PAM or the standard Sprint connection was being used?

Have there actually been cases where they bill you for the usage? I've always thought this was a rumor and either it works or it doesn't....

There have been a few complaining about getting charged, but not from those that have done the proper registry edits. Either way, we still should watch our bills.

Re: Tethering Fix Right Here!

I installed the cab file and it works great (I have the new Touch Pro).

As a newbie, I noticed Sprint TV no longer works...it says "Unable to launch the app using current internet connection. To run the app, please change your internet connection to use the cellular network." Also I noticed it grayed out the Wi-Fi on/off in the Comm Manager.

I did a soft reset and it looks like everything works...Sprint TV and internet sharing. Thanks!!!

No, it does not. Tethering is an extra $40 on all plans IIRC.
