Will the Diamond be 4G upgradeable?
Exerpt from Wiki;
Sprint's 4G Network Sprint is currently rolling out its flavor of 4G by utilizing WiMAX technology. It will allow customers to access cable broadband like speeds wirelessly. The rollout is expected to reach 100 metropolitan areas and 100 million people by the end of 2008. Will the Diamond be upgradeable to this technology? -CC

With Sprint's offering, if it makes good, all we will need is portal browsing devices and just access apps/contact/calander/video conferencing/voip thru the net.

Re: Will the Diamond be 4G upgradeable?
Doubtful, as Sprint's WiMax (XOHM) runs on a different part of the spectrum and is a completely different technology. 802.16e is closer to 802.11 than it is to CDMA. Also, considering that Qualcomm developed their own competing technology (LTE), they probably didn't go with it. then again, the WiFi chipset isn't built into the processor, so it may be able to do 802.11/802.16e in some sort of dual capability mode with a firmware update.
The most interesting thing I've found is a registry key on the Diamond named WWAN, most lkely referring to upcoming LTE or WiMax implementations on future chipsets. |
